Flix Brewhouse is opening a new-build 8=screen location here in Albuquerque, NM. Opening date has not yet been announced, but the plan is to be open by year's end. This is their first location in ABQ...

The Carmike Ovation Cinema Grill 9 in Holly Springs, NC (SW of Raleigh) opened October 13, 2016.

The B & B Goodyear Palm Valley 14 in Goodyear, Arizona closed at the end of October.

Probably had to do with the opening of the Harkins Estrella Falls 16 nearby on October 13th.

Larry H Miller Megaplex Theatres has acquired and gutted the old Holladay Center 6 in Holladay, UT (Salt Lake City area). They will rebuild within the shell a new luxury recline-o-plex called Megaplex Luxury Theatres at Cottonwood.

This building was most recently a discount house operated by Water Gardens. It was originally opened in 1988 by Cineplex Odeon, who bailed on it in the Loews-Cineplex bankruptcy in 2001. Westates operated it for several years in between.

A theater in Sacramento opened today, built on the site of my beloved dome theaters which were demolished in February, which I will call The Mistake for as long as it stands. 14 screens, all native 1.85, NO MASKING. Saw my first and last movie there today. Common-width screens are bad enough, but no masking is a deal-breaker.

Well, that was fast.
Not sure if they are officially closed. Maybe just upgrading the rest of the screens.
The Evans Theatre Eastdale Mall in Montgomery has quit reporting to Rentrak (which lists them as temporarily closed) as of 11/30/16, do not have any shows listed on their website, and have no answering machine on their phone.
They opened about 10/26/16 of this year.
Their main website in Oklahoma never got beyond linking to a We're Hiring page.
This is all very strange. We'll see what happens.

A new Harkins has appeared behind the Citrus Plaza mall in Redlands, CA. Can't tell you precisely when it opened, but I don't think it was there the last time I was in that area, about 3-4 months ago.

This could have something to do with the Krikorian on Eureka St. in Redlands being sort of under threat of closure from an initiative to reopen a railroad: one of the many detailed proposals under consideration has a maintenance depot and/or passenger station being built on the side of the theater. The railroad refurbishment has been talked about since the 1990s, and no-one is holding their breath that it'll actually happen, but I guess the possibility is just real enough that no serious investment in that Krikorian has happened for quite a while. The last time I saw a movie there, it had a very retro feel to it! Parking there is also very restricted, and for that reason I suspect that they must be losing quite a bit of business to the new Harkins (which has a vast number of parking spots all around it).

According to their Facebook page, they are closed due to rain damage.

The Harkins Mountain Grove 16 in Redlands, California opened March 24, 2016.

Long Island's art deco single-screen arthouse The Sag Harbor Cinema was destroyed by fire early this morning. The theatre was still open and doing a pretty good business drawing from the east island/Hamptons crowd, and closing in on its 97th birthday. A tiny, funky old cinema but one loved by its customers. I always hate to see these go.

Cinemark Movies 8 (discount theater) in North Richland Hills, TX closed as of today 12/16/16. They were already inside there today tearing the place apart "while the platters were still warm"...

No word yet, but it was a big fire, took out five other businesses. A Hampton newspaper says that whats left of the theatre will be knocked down either tonight or tomorrow, too dangerous to leave the walls standing.
