He eventually opened up his own film buying service. (Theatre Operators Incorp. has to be the most goofiest company I worked for in 1984. Yet, big names came out of TOI, esp Tim Warner, who eventually was head of Cinemark before his retirement. Posts: 1431 From: Waukee, IA Registered: Dec 2004 posted 11-27-2018 08:21 AM                        B&B will close Springwood 9 in Ankeny, IA after shows this Sunday ahead of opening their new 12-plex at the nearby Prairie Trail development. Originally opened by Fridley Theatres in 1999 and once managed by our own Andrew Diercks, it replaced the 5-screen Paramount, bringing stadium seating to the northeast side of the Des Moines area. Seeing the writing on the wall with B&B's deal at Prairie Trail, Fridley sold B&B the theatre to operate ahead of the new complex opening. The Springwood building is set for redevelopment with tenants rumored to include an indoor playground. Fridley still operates a Springwood twin in Pleasant hill (the recently remodeled Copper Creek 9) and is finishing up construction of The Palms 14 in Waukee, which will include one of the biggest LIEMAX screens in the country as well as an identically sized "XL" screen, Fridley's proprietary large format brand. The new B&B 12-plex will also feature a bowling alley. An opening date hasn't been announced, but it's looking like mid-December.  |  IP: Logged Jon P. Features include two Grand screens with DTS-X (no ScreenX), a Screen Play auditorium, and an MX4D auditorium. There’s also a bar and a 12-lane bowling alley. They serve food at the seats, but you must get there a half-hour before the movie. Hopefully that means the lights are fully out during the film. However, this is yet one more case where they've built 6 tiny little theaters with each having only 43 to 60 seats (recliners). I don't know how large the screens are, but I have a feeling that some of the potential clientele have living rooms larger than these theaters are. And they charge $25 for an adult ticket and $18 for child. An IMAX or Dolby ticket generally costs less than that. What are they smoking? I can see why they need it with so few seats in each theater, but maybe they should have thought of that before they designed the place. Cineplex Odeon had a theater right near where this one is many years ago, but it had over 2000 seats.  |  IP: Logged Martin Brooks Jedi Master Film Handler Posts: 900 From: Forest Hills, NY, USA Registered: May 2002 posted 12-16-2018 11:36 AM                        And Nitehawk is finally reopening the former Pavillion Theater, nee Sanders in Park Slope, Brooklyn on Prospect Park West this coming Wednesday, December 19th after a $multi-million renovation. 7 screens, total of 650 seats. Largest screen is 194 seats leaving an average of 76 each for the other six. Food service at seats. Full bar. (The Pavillion had 1100 seats /8 screens and the Sanders had 1500 seats). Nitehawk also owns a small theater in Williamsburg, with a total of 178 seats/3 screens. It's still a very active location. Used to have Motiograph/Ashcraft and Ballantine R6 soundheads. The Teton Dam flood in 1976 wiped the location almost clean except the screen. It did reopen the following year using EPRAD SWORDS with PRO 35's until the mid 80's, then closed for awhile until reopen with a 4K LP and Assoc behind a SuperSimplex and AW3 Platter. Closed and reopen again with NEC Digital. There's blab that the two Drive Ins in Idaho Falls, being the Sky VU and the Motor VUE, which is south of Rexburg about 30 miles, might try to reopen. CARLSBAD, N.M. (KRQE) - One of New Mexico's last drive-in movie theaters is closing. The Fiesta Drive-In in Carlsbad is one of two remaining drive-in experiences in the entire state of New Mexico. The other drive-in being the Fort Union Drive-In that's located in Las Vegas. It's been open since 1948, but on their Facebook page they say they will be closing permanently Dec. 9 due to declining business. The owner has already sold the property. I go to I F frequently and will try to see what I can find out.
