From there we can patch into the SDI or Composite AUX input on our AMX. For mac's we go right from the DVI output (or use the various monitor to DVI adaprtors)to a "Black Magic" DVI Extender that is USB powered and takes in DVI and outputs HDSDI on a BNC connector. For PC's we are stuck with VGA through the ethernet port into a send "Ballun" out to cat.5 then into a receive "ballun" which gives us a VGA output which we can plug right into the AMX.  |  IP: Logged Gordon May Film Handler Posts: 3 From: Providence, Ut. For my main job I am a janitor for the Cache County School District, and for my second job I am a "Tech" for Westates Theaters in Logan. I up keep 3 buildings with 19 screens and one of them is a digital\3D. I have worked for Westates Theaters for almost 7 years come this Nov. I started as a concessionist then after 3 months of that I was made a projectionist. I worked as a projectionest for about a year or so then was made Head Projectionst for the Logan area. After doing that for a year and a half I stepped down and I went to the "Tech" side of things for the Logan area. So far I have enjoyed working for Westates and the opportunity's that I have had to work in the movie industry.  |  IP: Logged Robert E. I've always been proud of being part of offering entertainment to the community. I'm not pleased with some of the garbage Hollywood has been pumping out the last few years but then theatres are not really forced to book that stuff. I've always admired a person who has the technical skills to be a tech. I have recently started managing/projecting at a small town one screen called the Art Theatre in Hobart, Indiana. I have been working there for a little less than a year now. I've been interested in film for years. My interested in film actually stemmed from my other life long hobby, being an avid fan of Rocky Horror since 1986. I have been involved in some way every Rocky Horror screening in Northwest Indiana since 1992. I was responsible for the start of the first RH with a live shadowcast in Northwest Indiana at the Loews Merrillville back in 92 and have moved/started every regular weekly show since then. I started collecting 35mm cult film/bizzare trailers back in 92 mainly for the purpose of showing before Rocky Horror. I also became very interested in the booth at that first Rocky Horror theatre. The projectionist there was very kind and showed me things abtou the booth, but , I never did get to operate anything. (I wish I could remember that projectionst name. He was the one responsible for Rocky Horror's sceond home after the Lowes canned us) I first got to work with 16mm when a friend, knowing my interest in film, got me an Eiki from a school sale for $5. Being a Rocky Horror fan/serious collector, of course now I HAD to have a 16mm print of RH to run on this projector I had aquired. In 2000, I finally got not only that print of Rocky, but, a print of it's follow up Shock Treatment as well. This led to me 16mm collecting as the thrill of projecting these film prints at home overwhelmed me. I needed more to prints to screen! So, I've been collecting 16mm ever since, along with 35mm trailers and an occasional 35 mm print. Our second RH home of 13 years, an independently owned twin screen, finally closed for good after a long fight with bankruptcy in 2006. 2 years later, the 40 some odd years old Art Theatre in Hobart, INdiana, was bought by a new local buisness owner. I had talked with the owner of the Art on 2 different occasions about doing RH at this theatre over the years. He was an older gentleman who was not keen on the idea of RH at this theatre. SO, when the new owner took over, he was much more receptive and RH was re-opened at The Art. I have appearantly proven myself trustworthy as I have been given a mangers job, and have been trained to run the projectors. A dream I have had since my first time in a booth in 1992. I still have A LOT to learn. Film-Tech has taught me quite a few things, which I in turn have taught to the other manager/projectionists at the Art. However, at this time, if the projector had a serious problem, I have not the training to be able to repair it (we have a tech for all fo that) although I really want to learn. We run 6000 ft reels on two Ballentyne Pro-35 heads. I do not know what the sound heads are, and Xetron (not sure of the model number) lamphouses. So, that's my story, keep the info coming so I can hopefully master the art of projection. I also sub at The Brattle in Cambridge. Other booths over the years - Harvard Film Archive in Cambridge; The Avon, The Columbus and The Cable Car in Providence, RI; The Carolina Theatre in Durham. I'm primarily an arthouse/changeover guy but I learned on platters. I've been in the booth for thirteen years overall now. I've also managed a theatre and a video store. I am Mike from north Jersey and have been in the business for about 5 years now. I have been reading on film-tech for the last few years and have found much of the information on here of much value. My first job was as an usher/relief projectionist at the South Cove 10 in Bayonne. I worked there for about a year and during that time I worked my way up to head projectionist. After about a year I then went to work as the only projectionist for the Hudson mall 7 screen theater in Jersey City. At Hudson mall we had a very interesting booth where all the equipment was either different or extremely old and worn out. Working there taught me how to take what is given and make it work. In early 2007 I was given the opportunity to work at the mega movies 13 in East Brunswick with John Hendrickson. This was a beautiful theater and the projection crew really did a great job. During that same time I took a position as an assistant manager at the Clearview Cinemas Warner theater in Ridgewood NJ. I worked at mega movies for about 7 months and really learned a lot. When I went back to school in September of 2007 I left mega movies to work at Ridgewood full time. Ridgewood became my home away from home for about 3 years and during that time I even worked as the general manager for 4-5 months. I love the Warner theater in Ridgewood because of its history and just the the feeling I got when walking through the doors. I think I really made a difference and gave my heart and soul to make sure the theater succeeded. In 2009 Clearview started to work on opening a brand new cinema in Hoboken NJ. I was chosen to be the full time assistant manager at Hoboken. After all was said and done we opened the theater in late October of 2009 and it was a huge success. We would make pre-show announcements and our customer service was outstanding. The building itself is state of the art and they did a fantastic job on it. About a month ago I took a position with the an independent company who opened the new Fabian 8 cinema in Paterson NJ which opened on February 19th, 2010. I am the only projectionist and with my experience/knowledge I put on the best show possible. I really enjoy management but when the opportunity came up to go strictly back to the booth I couldn't resist. In the past my other jobs would require me to be a manager operator making it challenging to just focus on the presentation quality. Through out my career I have met several film-tech members and they have all been super helpful. For that I am thankful.  |  IP: Logged Robert E. They cut it up into little 80 Seat houses.It was first cut to 4 then 7 screens. I also have been to Franks theater in Bayonne when it first opened and one of the supervisors from the theater I was working in (Newporte Center Mall) went to work there due you know A Roberto? First time i saw Erneman projectors. The theater itself is still nice and the largest screen is really impressive. It blows my mind to think of how big those auditoriums were. Do you remember how many seats each one held when it was a twin? Also I know Rob (if we are talking about the same Rob) and worked with him for a few years he was a great manager that showed me the ropes. He pretty much gave me my start in the Business. Without that experience I would not be where I am today. Clearview for the most part is still running 35mm in most locations but i'd say the majority of them have at least one digital screen. Fabian on the other hand only has two digital screens the rest are strictly 35mm. For the 35mm setup the Fabian has Big Sky platters/Lamphouse/Automation and Century sa heads. A few of the theaters have the newer DTS and the biggest house has Dolby Digital.  |  IP: Logged Joseph Palladino Film Handler Posts: 16 From: new Egypt, N.J. USA Registered: Feb 2007 posted 05-25-2010 10:10 AM                     Hi Mike, Cine-1 on the left was about 710 seats and Cine-2 was about 680. Is was made into a 4-plex first by making cine-2 into 3 houses then later when another company took it over and they cutup cine-1 into 4 houses. I think the biggest house was about 200 all others about 80seats,tiny.I have some pictures of old booth, see if i can get them scanned and on the post. Joe  |  IP: Logged
