The theatre was 30 miles from the nearest first run. I had regular clientele who would wait until I got the film and drive the 30 miles or more so they didn't have to pay the $5 admission. If I took in $400 at the boxoffice on a Saturday (2 matinees and two evening shows) I took in $1200 at the concession stand. I also have helped to design and improve sensors as well as beta tested several items for Microlab INC. Evening and weekends are spent either projecting indi films at the Schwartz Center for the Arts here in Dover, or doing tech work live shows and concerts (Lights, Sound, and Rigging). I was introduced to projection in 1995 at a Carmike cinema, and surprisingly I was trained by a very good projectionist (who ironically now works as a pizza delivery guy and wants nothing to do with the profession, long story). I then work from 1995 on and later became manager of the booth until I left around the end of 1999. I then moved into the projection position at the SCFA in 2000, and have been their ever since. I am the projection manager and I have two other projectionists under me. In my spare time I like to brew beer, make beer brewing equipment, TIG welding, and I also make stuff in my machine shop at home. I also like to spend time with my two sons on our boat. I'm not the film maker; I get that all the time. I am the General Manager at Mitchell Theatres Northridge Cinema 8 in Guymon Oklahoma. I started working here part time in September of 2005 to make a little extra money on the side. In May of 2006 I started learning to be a projectionist and in November of 2006 they needed an assistant manager so I took the job as my new full time job. In Novemeber of 2007 the General Manager at the time decided to leave and in December of 2007 I took over as the General Manager and here I am! Right now I am still learnig a lot about managing, projecting, and working on the projectors and platters. I started working for R/C Theatres in 2002, opened a brand new building in Frederick, MD as a popcorn pusher. 3 months later I was promoted to Assistant manager. Then Regal came around and bought a good bit of R/C Theatre's buildings, mine being one of them. I became a manager for Regal in 2005, opening weekend for Stars Wars Episode 3... Good times. From there I climbed the ranks to become the first assistant (number 2 in command) within a year. Then a theatre in Bowie, MD (about 10 miles East of DC) needed help so I transfered there and was made the GM. Worked there for just over a year, now I work at Regal's Rockville Center 13, in Rockville, MD (about 15 miles North of DC). There is no projection manager or expert here on site, so amongst having to run and operate the building I also have had to learn and fix the booth. Between me and my booth tech that comes to visit when he can, the booth is starting to look the way it should. I thank everyone on this site for being open and giving of their knowledge, it has helped me and this theatre greatly. Thats me in a nutshell. I've been lurking here for years but only just registered. I started working as a popcorn scooper for Regal Cinemas in Eugene, OR, in the spring of '99 and was training projection as a manager by year's end. For the next seven years I was mainly a floor manager in Eugene and in Salem, OR, until I took on a Booth Manager position at a new build in the fall of '06. I stayed in my cave for the next 18 months until I transferred to my current location as interim GM and now I'm just helping out for awhile until I can return to my Apogee's, which I can't believe I miss. I really can't believe I just said that. My name is Linda Corrigan, I currently have two jobs, my day job is I teach reading to primary grades, and my evening job is lead projectionist at Yelm Cinema's in Washington state. I started out my film career at the ripe old age of 14 (under the table mind you) I ran movies on carbon arc projectors, solo, by the time I was 15. I'm the lead projectionist and night manager of University Mall Theatres in Fairfax, Va. And a projectionist at Cinema Arts Theatres in Fairfax, Va. Two nice privately owned theaters. Sadly I've only been in the industry since 2005, I would've started earlier, but all the other theaters I ever applied for said it would take too long to become a projectionist. I started at the Freehold 14 which was a Loews building at the time, now after the merge with AMC I am working as a manager in Bridgewater NJ. Bridgewater is a tiny little 7 screen and I am trying to scrape my way back into a high volume location. During my time in Freehold I spent a great deal of time in the booth, exclusively did booth for about 2 years, other than that is was 3 days a week or so with a few floor shifts. I have been lurking around this site for a while, and have managed to learn quite a bit, but now that I discovered I can access this site from work I decided to register and have something to do while I'm waiting for the movies to drop at the end of the night.  |  IP: Logged
