I think its because I have this uncanny ability to do everything here in the theater. (gasp) I think the latest thing I was called was 'Head Projectionist' but that was for the sake of keeping me off of salary and down to 40 hours a week since they don't pay overtime. Haha. As for when? I answered the who what and where part right? This is my third theater, second company, to work for. I started working in movies ohh not too long ago: 2001 I think. Started out in 1991 with a small southern Ohio chain, Buckeye Theaters Inc. I've been with Regal Cinemas since 1994 at three different locations and have spent many miles on the road both training projection staff and opening new locations. First job EVER was at a sub run theater in Peoria IL (GKC Westlake) in 1996. Started in CCA, then Box, then projectionist in all about a 2 year time span. In 1999 I became an assistant manager. Along with managing Westlake, I doubled my managerial duties at the GKC Metro Center theater (first run). Some days we would seriously only have 1 person come in. Metro had the movies that were too old for the regular first run, but not old enough for Westlake to get (we called it the spill over theater). Metro closed in 2000. In 2001, I quit managing and went to full time projectionist. Westlake closed in 2003. I miss it every single day of my life. I'm not joking. Took a few months off after sheer pissed-offness at the company for not telling us we were closing until 5 hours before, and went to GKC Sunnyland Cinemas (first run). Part time projectionist since. As of April this year, we're 100% Digital, excluding the three 'dual' DLP/35 projectors. My job duties have been cut back by 80%. I miss my films, I hate corrupt hard drives, and I still eat popcorn. I've closed 3 theaters I've worked at. The third being GKC Landmark Cinemas where I worked every so often just to help them out. Maybe I'm bad luck? I have lived in Buffalo, Oklahoma for quite some time now.... about 30 years. My experience in cinema started back in my high-school days with the old carbon-arc projectors. That lasted for less than a year. Recently the theater in our small town, which has been closed for many years, was purchased by a group of citizens and a Board of Directors was named. I just happened along and got to be the technical consultant to the Board, and head projectionist in the booth, and coke machine/popcorn machine/whatever-else-breaks repairman in my spare time. As you know, small-town theaters don't pay so well ($0), but we have a good time, and to date we have shown TWO movies !!! I sure do appreciate this board, and read frequently to see "how everyone else does it". As we move out of the film age and into the digital age, I expect to learn a lot here. Keep up the good work ! As my home theatre, St. Anthony Main has recently cut back on afternoon shows, my shifts got cut & I found a new job! I'm now a mail order processor for Northern Brewer Ltd., a home brewing company based out of St. Paul, MN. that specializes in grain kits, wine kits & equipment for the home microbrewer. I heard about the job through my roommate, who works at the retail store. I'm still managing & building film at St. Anthony Main, but my mornings & afternoons are now spent picking & packing orders for internet & phone orders.
