I can't remember his name now, but I do remember he favors installing the speakers above the screen, and we discussed that and the DTS subtitling system. Yes, I know Torkell very well. Have not spoken to to him in a couple months now, he seems to be travelling all over the world all the time. Actually, Michael, I think we have also met a couple years ago in Amsterdam/Cinema Expo. Assuming the gentleman I met was actually your boss. I think he was the chief engineer of FinnKino. I have to look through my collection of business cards, but I am pretty sure that was who I met. Big dude with dark hair. We met in Berlin 3 years ago during the opening of the "Alhambra", he was towed in by Torkell and we spent an afternoon watching demo reels. Steven from Hong Kong, a small place which people always think they know a lot (I don't )but actually most people know nothing (including me ). Learning a lot around and still study how to make better. Most update famous unkown things is we get our first digital cinema equipments, we use a Dolby DMA-8 for our Dolby CP-650 which got 4 AES input (yes, we even get connectors from the ex-I/O card), installer say they install a lot around asia with these config. Second is no one (I means NO ONE) here using film cleaner. Wherever there was abrasion of the protective gelatin top layer of the emulsion, the oil got into the emulsion structure and actually leached the oil-soluble dyes from the film, causing green or yellow spots in the image. The effect was aggravated by the radiant energy of the projector lamp. When wiped off the film with a white tissue, the oil was colored magenta, from the dye it had removed from the film. Yesterday our manager told me I can start to try order film guard, hope will helpful to us.  |  IP: Logged Brian Hogan Expert Film Handler Posts: 119 From: Charlotte, North Carolina, USA Registered: Jul 2001 posted 07-14-2005 08:57 PM                     hey what up!? im originally from columbus, ohio in the states. there i ran a 6, 8, 18, 24 and 30 plex. been in the game for nine years now, two thirds spent in management, the other third in projection. recently relocated to auckland, new zealand where i find myself back in the booth. i dont know if anyone here in new zealand uses film cleaner either. ive asked what happens when a dirty print is noticed and i get told that ya hold a rag with either wax remover or IPA on it on the print for the whole show. i am trying to convince them it is in their best interest to invest in a film cleaner and film-guard, as all of our prints look quite dirty. other than that, new zealand is awesome and im really glad that i came down here. sheep rock!  |  IP: Logged Brett Enright Film Handler Posts: 3 From: Teesdale in Victoria, AUSTRALIA Registered: Dec 2005 posted 12-14-2005 04:33 PM                     Hello add me to the Australia list also. Teesdale is about 40km west of Geelong in Victoria. We have no cinema, it's a town of about 800 people. We have had portable drive-ins set up in the Equestrian Cenetre at the end of the road however - 'Reels on the Run'. And Peter is right about sunny Australia, it never rains here in the driest continent on the planet (I think). I live in Korumburra (Aboriginal for Blow Fly)which is situated 2hrs drive SE of Melbourne.It is a beautiful part of the world with rolling hills, not far from the beach (20min)and there's always lots to do.
