I would have said LACK OF craftmanship and reliability, but the point was well made.  |  IP: Logged Jim Cassedy Phenomenal Film Handler Posts: 1661 From: San Francisco, CA Registered: Dec 2006 posted 05-13-2009 05:27 PM                     I bought this boxload of SMPTE test films on e-bay a couple of weeks ago for only 80bux and it turned out NOT to be junk. There were 9 reels of assorted SMPTE picture and sound (both optical & magnetic) test films and loops. Several appear to be new/unused. And based on some of the stuff in the box I was able to determine that this stash came from a film transfer facility, so the none of the films had ever been run through a projector, only on a Rank Cintel or some similar telecine, so they were as good as new. There were also a couple of non-SMPTE films in the box, such as a 400ft "Kodak Keykode Numbers Verification Film" which according to old price lists I have originally sold for $500. There was also a reel of short segments (appx 1 ft each) hot-spliced together of various color negative stocks with chip-charts on them which I assume was used to properly adjust color on the transfer machine for different types of color negative film-stocks. There was a total of 9 reels. Oddly I kinda liked the 1050's we had at the Eisenhow better. There's not much difference that I can tell, but, after some needed maintainance like cleaning and lube, the 1050's seemed to run so much smoother. Wouldn't mind having one, but I don't have that kind of money.  |  IP: Logged
