Strangely, I got to see a 35mm print of Airplane! while I was in Phoenix. "Do you like gladiator movies?" You really must have detailed dimensioned mechanical drawings...and even then there is an art that a skilled craftsman adds to make it all work. It's not as easy as it looks. And with the coming of video and the ever increasing resolution and performance of 35mm film, I really doubt someone would be foolish enough to invest a bazillion dollars in R&D and tooling to rip-off an already established and operating projector for a format that will someday in the near future die. There are people I know working on a different method, much less costly 1570 projector, but they are even questioning the long-term feasibility of continuing. 1570's demise will be the ever-increasing film & print costs, outrageous projection system costs, the ridiculous contractual demands of "the equipment supplier", and of course, the continuing improvements in the great Kodak films in smaller formats. >>> Phil  |  IP: Logged Richard Hamilton Phenomenal Film Handler Posts: 1341 From: Evansville, Indiana Registered: Jan 2000 posted 04-11-2003 09:00 PM                     Last year I was in Scotland installing a sound system at the Glasgow Science Center and asked for a tour of the Imax booth. The Technical director of the center took me to the booth, but he wouldn't let me see the inside of the projector because I work for the competition and the Imax patents were expired. What a Super attractive cinema & theatre. Love the polished brass rails in the balcony and boxes. April 15th's update was done about 20 hours ago of the Avon cinema. I wonder how many people don't get to see all of the updates due to that stupid browser? Very readable and user friendly. Now I no longer have to scroll to every day's listings to see what is level 1, 2, or 3.
