Author Topic: Paul G. Thompson R.I.P. Randy Loy Expert Film Handler Posts: 156 Registered: Aug 1999 posted 07-12-2004 01:58 PM                     I too was shocked when I logged on this morning and realized that Paul had passed away. Like many other Film-Techers, I knew him only through his posts and through the few occasions that he and I had an opportunity to e-mail each other. Still, I am shocked and deeply saddened, just as if I'd known him personally for years. He was a very important part of our Film-Tech family. Rest in peace Paul and thank you for your friendship and the great knowledge that you passed to us during your time here on Earth. Your influence in the industry will live on through the memories held by each of us and through all that you've taught us. How very sad. I am thankful that I was able to have lunch with him while he was passing through the Twin Cities a while back. He was one of the kindest and most giving people I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. I think this thread is a small part of the testament to the impact and influence that Paul had in his life. Isn't written somewhere that everyone on this forum is granted immortality? It makes one stop and think about there own life, have I taken enough time to "stop and smell the roses"? I never met him in person, but he was a big help to me as I became immersed in what has become my passionate interest. Awhile back I traded e-mails with him about how my Super Simplex seemed to be sluggish and producing a noticeable whine. He asked me for my phone number, and one evening about ten o'clock I get a call from him. He tells me to take my phone upstairs to the screening room and turn on the projector. Then he tells me to hold the phone up to the machine. After about ten seconds I put the phone to my ear and he tells me everything that's wrong with the unit. Then he calls John Eichoff and they arrange for a new Super to be shipped to me free of charge. Now, THAT'S a guy! I haven't visited the site for some time now, and feel that it won't be the same, I most remember Paul from emails and posts of his, one that especially meant alot to me was after losing my job: quote: Stay cool, Travis. It's evident that his legacy will live on through the people here for years to come. His wisdom and experience will be missed by many. I once heard that you have achieved success if you have lived well, laughed often and loved much. By that description, Paul was one of the most successful people I never had the honor to meet. Mostly because he was not afraid to speak his mind and say what he thought. If at some point his family look at all these messages and hopefully they will, I hope they will be gladdened by the knowledge that Paul's insights and writings have touched those the world over.
