I had the chance to meet Paul a couple of times when he came to Manitowoc while I was working at the Strand. I gave him and Josh the grand tour and had a chance to talk with him a bit. He was very knowledgeable and had good advice to share, and was very easy to get along with. I don't get in here much, but I believe he was on his way here to take care of some family business. I will look through the last few papers, and if I find anything I will scan it and send it to Brad. R.I.P. They were filled with many things, usually knowledge and humor all rolled into a simple statement. Similarly to Thomas, when I saw the front page I saw the picture and it was something to smile about, and I thought it might have to do with the challenge with Brad. Then I saw the caption, and my heart sank. I had the same dilemma, to go to the forums or not, fearing what was there. And, unforuntately, this thread has brought us all the worst news. While I never met Paul, I can tell from all those who have how much of a special and knowledgeable person he was, and I will miss all the advice and banter that he contributed to these forums. Certainly no one was expecting this. Paul will definitely be missed, as he was a great asset to both this site, the forums, and the industry he devoted much of his time and effort to. It was very shocking and humbling to see Paul's picture on the site today. Film is near and dear to all of our hearts and the industry lost one of it's children. I first met him outside the Anacortes cinema as its construction was nearing completion, he came outside between hiring interviews (I was waiting for my turn) and we hit it right off. We chewed the fat on what equipment I had run in the past, and he gave his opinion on various topics (THX – the x stands for excrement!). A few weeks later he asked why I was not a member of Film-Tech. Film-what?! Occasionally Paul would come into the theatre, digital camera in hand, with this sly look on his face. You could always tell when he was up to something. I took the original weenie-man picture of him, and countless others. Paul would not tolerate laziness in his booths, a fact that unfortunately made him seem gruff with some of the employees. The rest of us knew him for what he really was – a showman. I still can't. Anyone that was fortunate enough to meet him was very lucky. He contributed so much useful information as well as humour. I send my condolences.
