I did my usual morning routine today. Got my coffee, checked my e-mail, and logged on to Film-Tech.
I saw Paul's picture on the front page, and I smiled. I don't know what it is, but every picture I saw of him made me smile.
Then I read the caption. Shock. Sadness. Fear. A feeling of deep loss. Tragedy one feels when one looses a family member, a relative, a close friend. I broke into a sweat. My hands shook. I didn't know whether to proceed to the forums, because I knew there would be a thread about it. I began to read, and broke into tears.
I started to think about the last few conversations we had. He was always so warm and friendly. Always wanted to help whenever he could. He gave me suggestions for a home film setup, we talked about radio production, we even planned to meet each other in the near future.
I thought about the booth challenge with Brad. How reluctant, yet ambitious he was to undertake that. I thought about all his posts, his jokes, his kind words, his jesting insults... trying to paint a picture of a man I never met.
It's hard to believe that someone you've only exchanged words with, someone you've never seen, or shook hands with, or heard their voice, to bring such sadness and pain when they pass. It really makes me wonder just how special Paul was when I'm sitting here crying while writing this. Weenieman, you sure do leave an impression!
I have to leave for work now. No doubt that this will be on my mind the whole time, so maybe I'll sit and write something between shows. It's good to know at least that God will have someone now to give him the best damn presentation not of this world!!
Paul G. Thompson, you are an inspiration to us all.
