You'd drive through and then they'd tell you to park and wait because they actually had to cook your meal. All maccas worldwide are switching to the "Burger King/Hungry Jacks" system where they cook meat on the hour and heat it until needed. My job is the number one reason I hate people. Asking someone to park for two minutes for a fresh burger is like asking them for their first born. People have no patience anymore. When you take the food out they are assholes then too. My cited reasons for becoming a projectionist are 1. My love of film as a medium 2. Being in a box alone, all day, in the dark. 3. Knowing the sweet release of death is only a switchboard away. Walking out on this grate and looking down is a dizzying experience in itself. The cool part is that you can make this grate bounce up and down a ways ... Probably a goof thing to have covered it up so some unsuspecting snowmobiler or ATV'er doesn't vanish for ever. There are a couple of other mine shafts about 3 miles north of this one that are not covered and are as deep! Or coal? Did people repel down to the bottom and spend the night? The laborius part was hauling out the blasted material... most of this was loaded into small ore cars and brought out by hand.. some were pulled by mule or a horse in larger mines... and dumped in huge piles called tailing piles. Its always easy to identify if you're near a mine by large tailings piles! Bats also live in the mines and take care of any "bug problem". Note that hard rock mines are extremely safe(except for occasional varmits) The adit shown here is over 100 years old and in that amount of time and the many earthquakes and tremors that have occured around here there are but a few small rocks that have fallen. Notice the huge vein of white quartz on the left side of the adit... there's Gold mixed in with in that thar quartz... They didn't repel down those deep shafts they used rickety elevators driven by rusty winches like this one....  |  IP: Logged Adam Martin I'm not even gonna point out the irony. The fire brought down another ramp above it and suddenly Bay Area drivers are remembering how to get around Oakland like they did after the 1989 quake.  |  IP: Logged Tim Reed Better Projection Pays Posts: 5246 From: Northampton, PA Registered: Sep 1999 posted 05-01-2007 09:05 AM                       A similar thing happened on 95 a couple years ago, in Bridgeport, CT, back when I was driving a big truck. Tanker burned and compromised a section of the bridge. This is THE main artery from NYC to New England, and I drove that way daily on the way to Boston. It meant a major go-around for me of at least 100 extra miles, round trip. Conn-DOT predicted 95 would be closed for months. Don't you know, crews got in there and had a temporary bridge up in just about a week? This also happened at the large I-90 interchange in Milwaukee back in the 90's. They must have used better steel there since the road didn't collapse, just melted the asphalt... This morning, the news is reporting the driver had some kind of criminal record which really should have barred him from driving that sort of vehicle. I think I can already hear the screeching of buzzards circling over a certain trucking company. Luckily no one was hurt or killed with that mess. That situation in the Bay Area is still pretty bad when it comes to the snarled traffic. I recall the incident May 26, 2002 in Oklahoma where I-40 crosses the Arkansas River (near Webbers Falls). A barge on the river hit one of the bridge piers when the captain fainted or blacked out. The collision caused a 580 foot long section of the highway to collapse into the river. 14 people and 4 horses (being hauled in a trailer) were killed and a number of others were injured when their cars and trucks plunged into the gap. It took only two months for crews to rebuild the missing bridge section and reopen that part of I-40. Nearby towns had to deal with 20,000 extra vehicles per day being detoured off the rural Interstate on their little two lane roads. The traffic tie-ups were really bad. In the end, not only was the barge captain blamed for the accident, but the bridge piers themselves were found to have been made improperly. Hooray for cutting corners and putting profits against driver safety! At least it wasn't 200,000 or so vehicles coming off I-80! *** BTW, I noticed Film-Yak passed the 100,000 post mark.
