Posts: 12814 From: Annapolis, MD Registered: Dec 1999 posted 11-15-2007 07:41 PM                     I believe one of the problems with alternative fuels for gas type engines is the CO2 emissions assoicated with the fuel, both making it and consumming it. CO2 being a problem in the greenhouse gas thing. The problem isn't just in the renewable fuel but a process that doesn't lead to other problems. Prices for 87 octane gasoline around this part of Oklahoma is running $3.54 per gallon. Diesel is ranging between $3.89 and $4.09 per gallon. I spent $75 putting 21 gallons of gas in my pickup this afternoon. On the bright side, I haven't bought gasoline since late March. Our soda supplier recently bought a new cab over box truck with a gas engine instead of diesel, says fuel consumption specs are just about equal but diesel fuel is $.60 higher and the difference between gas and diesel prices is expected to increase. I just remember a friend living there a few years back and he was surprised that an attendant had to pump your gas for you. We haven't had attendants pump gas here in 20 years. Today, regular was $3.49, and the Shell station I went to was sold out of premium gas (which was $3.89)! I get another 10 cents a gallon off if we shop at Smith's and spend 25.00 or more so we usually do that. Keeping this non-political I think prices should stabilize in the near future though as congress is trying to tie the arms trade deal with the Saudi's to pressure them to pump more oil to lower/stabilize the oil market... Posts: 3836 From: Albuquerque, NM Registered: Feb 2000 posted 04-30-2008 12:11 PM                        Yesterday at my corner Chevron: $3.61/gal for regular. $3.73/gal for mid-grade. $3.83/gal for premium. Those prices are towards the high end of the range here. My 50cc scooter burns premium. But it still gets over 100 miles/gallon. When I was commuting 30 miles a day to the airport and back I'd refill after every three round trips - about 7/10 of a gallon in a 1.2 gallon tank. So cost is still pretty cheap at about $4.00/week for gas. Just have to drive very carefully and defensively. 12,000 miles on the scoot in a year and a half in 'Vegas traffic and I'm not dead yet. No scratches on the bike yet either. What a frickin' life I lead! The job I just tested for will involve a slightly longer commute. Time to really look for a more highway-capable scoot. I added an M endorsement to my driver license last November in preparation for something with more displacement. Hell no! I doubt that will ever happen. Every few years someone in the state legislature introduces a bill to allow self-serv, but it always gets shot down. Of course if you slap a magnetic sign on the side of your vehicle saying you're with "Acme Industries", you can get a permit to use cardlock stations, where you can pump your own. The prices I quoted are at the high end for here. You can find Regular for around $3.60 and Premium for under $4.00 if you shop around. I find the idea of suspending the federal gas tax for the summer to stimulate the economy humorous. It will save the average driver, what, the cost of half a tank of gas?  |  IP: Logged
