Another good round of price cuts on gasoline here in Lawton. On Friday, the price dropped to $2.16 per gallon. On Saturday, it fell to $2.09 per gallon -and $2.06 at some stations. Today, the price actually dropped below the $2.00 level. At most stations in town the price is now $1.97 per gallon. I thought it would be sometime in November (or perhaps never) before we saw prices relatively that low again. Remember a little more than just a couple of years ago when we all though gasoline rising above $2.00 per gallon was outrageous?  |  IP: Logged Mark Gulbrandsen Resident Trollmaster Posts: 16657 From: Music City Registered: Jun 99 posted 10-26-2008 09:57 PM                     I'm still paying just .875 for natural gas here in Utah... its 2.05 in Evanston, WY and goes a little higher the farther you head east, up to 2.259 in Cheyenne, WY. Gas was cheapest in Evanston, WY at 2.669 a gallon for no lead. The amazing thing about running on natural gas is that the engine oil never gets dirty! Down to 2.91/gal.. and at Albertson's with their 3cent incentive nonsense card that you gotta swipe in the machine before fueling, drops down to 2.88/gal. Gee, buck/97 in OKA ... haven't seen that price since 2005 .. True LPG fuels keeps oil clean ... How does the MPG compare between Natural Gas and Gasoline?  |  IP: Logged Mark Gulbrandsen Resident Trollmaster Posts: 16657 From: Music City Registered: Jun 99 posted 10-27-2008 11:11 PM                     A little over 5lbs of Natural Gas to one gallon of gasoline, but Natural Gas is also 130 octane equivelent! The milage one gets all depends on how you drive really but is quite close to gasoline milage... The new van has a large V-8 in it and is not quite broken in yet... only about 7500 miles so far. I will say that the smoothness of the engine running on Natural Gas vs. Gasoline(85 octane) is far far smoother. The Gas conversion also did not parlay the GM warranty as it is a Certified Conversion and there is a complete second set of injectors for the Natural Gas system. Everything is automatic... The van starts on gasoline and as it warms up automatically switches to Natural Gas. If you run out of Natural Gas it then automatically switches back over to Gasoline. you never even know it except for the warning beeper at switch over. The downside is that the 3500 psi/22 gallon equivelent tank takes up quite a bit of room in the back... The tank is spun Kevlar and never has to be hydroed during its 20 year lifespan, there is a diamond plate metal box over it for safety just in case my TEK 465 might happen to fall down on it. This vehicle makes much more sense than the bogus "Flex Fuel" vehicles some of the car makers are selling. It's still $1.97 at most gas stations. It's a few cents cheaper if I cross the state line into Missouri. Diesel is also below $3 for the first time in a long time at $2.999. I'm having trouble remembering when diesel was cheaper than 87 octane unleaded. Why GM went into that diesel craze in the early 80's converting their 350's over to diesel yet not modifying the motors correctly for diesel usage.. major cam problems were the starters. ...and could they leave a trail of coal behind them! ..and of course, the import diesel versions were good little motors. Domestic automaking back then wasn't much to brag about...and I still wonder about that to this day. -Monte  |  IP: Logged Claude S. Due to the very slow pace of fluctuating gas prices here in the islands up until that time, I predicted a gallon of gas in Hawaii would be around $3.35 by the holidays. I was wrong because it is already down to $3.29 at a few stations around here.
