You can run them on the cheapest stuff & it'll just dial back until there's no detonation.  |  IP: Logged Glen Rich Film Handler Posts: 55 From: Nedlands, Western Australia Registered: Feb 2002 posted 03-15-2004 04:57 AM                     Your not doing too badly.I filled the tank on my Holden (think Chev)at 99.9cents per litre (about 1/3 a US gallon)with 91 octane (regular)unleaded.Cost about $AUD60 to fill, about $US45.The petroleum companies here have a weekly price war so the price rotates from about .86cents to $1.04 per litre.They are only allowed to change the price once a day,the trick is picking which day is going to be the cheap!one. They ,(the ubiquitous they),keep telling us about the rising cost of fuel,yet the cost of a barrel of oil (with Australia producing 90% of it's needs)is the same as it was 20 years ago. The fact that state and commonwealth taxes are .64cents per litre when sold at .99cents per litre (we have a Goods and Service Tax so when fuel price increases so does the bloody tax) might have something to do with it. I live out on the edge of the Perth metro area,(it used to be out in the bush but urban sprawl),my cinema is near central city ,so at least 1 and a half tanks per week. I'm not sure if anyone has read the proposal Robin Williams gave about the plan for peace. Here are the 2 oil related: 6. The US will make a strong effort to become self-sufficient energy-wise. This will include developing non-polluting sources of energy but will require a temporary drilling of oil in the Alaskan wilderness. The caribou will have to cope for a while. 7. Offer Saudi Arabia and other oil producing countries $10 a barrel for their oil. If they don't like it, we go some place else. They can go somewhere else to sell their production. I understand a major refinery in Bakersfield, CA is going to shut down because the oil wells the refinery is built upon are drying up. Supposedly, because of its location, it will soon be no longer profitable for the refinery to continue its operations due to a logistics of the nearest seaport from which the crude oil could be brought in for processing on an economical basis. I also understand the nearest refinery that is open to the large sea-going super tankers is almost in my back yard, namely the two huge Anacortes refineries about 12 miles from where I live. The problem is much of the gasoline California (as well as other Western states) need will have to come from the Anacortes refineries as well as the major ARCO Refinery in Ferndale, Washington. That is going to raise Cain with the price I'll have to pay (along with other Washington State and Oregon residents) because much or our product will be heading South. I am sure this will also have an adverse impact on fuel prices throughout the United States. As I said before twice (I think) in this thread, might as well deal with it...the price of gasoline and Diesel is going to probably skyrocket by summer, not to mention how high the price will go when the Bakersfield refinery finally shuts down.  |  IP: Logged Paul Cassidy Jedi Master Film Handler Posts: 549 From: Auckland, New Zealand Registered: Aug 2001 posted 03-16-2004 04:17 AM                        Local prices = Prices at most Shell service stations will now be 107.9 cents for Unleaded 91, 112.9 cents for Unleaded 96 Octane petrol and 61.9 cents per litre for Diesel. One thing that found when getting Gas on my recent trip to the USA ,was that it took awhile to figure out how to work the gas pumps , here in NZ we normally have attendants that will Gas your car up and check to oil and water , so it took abit of asking to find out that you had to pay first and wait for the voice to tell you you can start the pump then get your change later once you fill up I got used to it in the end .  |  IP: Logged Nate Lehrke Master Film Handler Posts: 396 From: Denver, CO Registered: Oct 2002 posted 03-16-2004 05:04 AM                     I just filled up using 89 octane at $1.51 a gallon. Just as a side not to all New Englanders... is that a re-open drive in on RT 146 south? Just mixed up a small batch of Bio Diesel for testing purposes. As far as it goes, a piece of cake to mix! You can get free gas if you know where to look. Just round up a couple of 55 gallon drums and head out to your local auto salvage yard. In some states, all fluids must be removed from salvage vehicles. So they drain all the fluids, and give the gas, diesel and antifreeze away. So far, no problems with the fuel that I have picked up, but you still have to strain it. I process it by using a high volume universal electric fuel pump,two fuel filters and a water seperator. with an octane tester, it seems to average about 89 to 90. On the cooking oil, what happens to it in the cold---around freezing or below, does the stuff thicken or congeal to the point where it won't flow? Will it mix well with petrodiesel?  |  IP: Logged
