I didn't read about a thinning agent for V.O. but someone out there may offer one. With all of the changes that had to be made to the fuel system, (a.k.a. much more work ) I decided to process my own test batch of Bio-diesel fuel. Just my opinion, but I believe this is an easier way to go for me. This stuff practically makes it self! Bio diesel can be used directly without any modification, and if you cold filter the batch, all remaining congealing solids can be removed resulting in a cleaner burning and better performing fuel Or, You could just add 1 gallon of Petro-diesel to every 5 gallons of Bio-diesel to prevent solidification of all congealing solids!!! There are a few forums, and web sites on the subject. I started from Paul's reference to the Veggie Car!!! A very Arse Kickin subject, and worth while reading!!! Come on down to Southern California, where the cheapest major-brand-name regular is now about $2.55 a gallon. I've heard that one particularly greedy station out in the middle of nowhere is charging $3.79/gallon for gas . Boy am I glad I took the plunge and had my car converted to run on LPG (Autogas) last autumn! The tax on this fuel is much lower because it's environmentally friendlier, meaning that the fuel cost per mile was about 40% lower than for petrol at the time I converted. It's now at around 45%, I'd guess. At the time I estimated that it would take me 26-28k miles, which at September 2004 prices meant 14-16 months, to recover the cost of the conversion. If petrol stays at around 85p and LPG holds steady at the 37.9p a litre at my local filling station, that comes down to 22-23k miles and I'll be into profit by the end of this summer (even allowing for the slightly higher service costs of an LPG car).  |  IP: Logged Monte L Fullmer Film God Posts: 8367 From: Nampa, Idaho, USA Registered: Nov 2004 posted 04-09-2005 04:22 PM                     Just crazy, aint it? Like I was telling my fellow theatre employees that it USED to cost $2.75 to fill up a new '70 Toyota Corolla with gas @.259/gallon, and 85 cents to fill up your motorcycle back in 1970. Course, there were a third less drivers back then. A barrel of oil out of Arabia was $7.85/barrel, no CD's, Celphones,PDA's,imports from China(mainland), computers, SUVS-no toys that we have now, back then. Now, it's just all about greed. Even though Montana has one of the highest gasoline taxes, we always seem to hover just a bit below the national average ($2.21 in today's paper). The last time we fueled our van $78.00 for a week of use, I was reminded I spent less than $25.00 to go from Florida to California in 1970 in my Dodge Dart Everything has to fit my Honda Element or else . The station right by my theatre (a circle K) is 2.58 a gallon. The Chevron is like $2.68. The Shell by my house was like 2.73. Why is it that a $2 hike in a 55 gallon barrel of oil causes a 10 cent per gallon price hike? Gas never seems to get as high here as it does in other states. I just got lucky and found 1 station @ 2.159. If you can call that luck. I am now starting to dislike my SUV. at a great 17 miles to gallon.  |  IP: Logged
