I don't bother with the bagging nonsense. I guess it's more "green" not to bag the leaves anyway. Haven't noticed any stray leaves or anything like that along the street curb after trash pickup, so I guess they're all going right into the truck's garbage container when the lid flops open. I'll start bagging the leaves again if the garbage men say anything. My backyard is a hill into a river flood plain, aka the woods. I've always just mowed until there got to be too many leaves for that. It wasn't the one I wanted (the D700) but the thought of dangling $3,000 around my neck on family vacations where it will necessarily be subject to getting stowed while we are on amusement park rides and thus either damaged or stolen just rubbed me to wrong way. I also don't think a D-SLR is really worth $3K, honestly. If I made my living off of taking pictures, that would probably be another story. I think I depressed the sales guy because I kept referring to it as my "compromise camera." Now I need to figure out a good way to store the digital images where they won't either take up too much space on drives and also survive time (and I mean decades...not years). Very satisfied. SD cards are cheap, small and will probably last. I mark them with "editorial tape" and keep them in a small tin (like a small coffee can.) One for each year or for each trip. It's bad enough some DSLR camera bodies alone can cost upwards of $3000, $5000 or even $8000. Then you have to figure on the glass you have mounted to them. That easily adds $1000 or a lot more to the combination. Lenses, especially zoom lenses, are susceptible to being thrown out of calibration or even just plain damaged with any serious impact (either stuff hitting it or the lens suffering a drop). Overall, when you have about $5000 of camera gear hanging around your neck, you tend to have a more "heads up" awareness of the situation. I don't let anything get near, much less touch, my camera. I'm pretty good at protecting it. Really, the bigger problem I have with using a higher end DSLR camera is it's more difficult to shoot discrete photos of people at some sort of event. They get distracted by the big camera and lens and start asking, "do you work for the newspaper?" I have an old Kodak Easy Share camera for some simple point and shoot duties, but I'm thinking about replacing that with a Canon Powershot SX 20 IS camera. The Powershot has a 20X optical zoom lens. It has a handy flip-out LCD panel (something I wish more DSLR cameras had) you can use for self portraits and lots of other odd angle stuff. On top of that it has E-TTL functions and its hot shoe is compatible with Canon Speedlight external flashes.  |  IP: Logged Hillary Charles Jedi Master Film Handler Posts: 748 From: York, PA, USA Registered: Feb 2001 posted 10-17-2009 11:48 AM                     When I was selling cameras, it was often like pulling teeth to sell a $600 35mm SLR outfit, but today, the same people (justifiably) find an $800~$1000 DSLR body a good buy! Not that the markup is any better because of the higher prices. BTW, the last camera I bought was a 1950's (3D) Stereo Realist via feebay. Half a century old, $120, and its images still provides the "wow factor."  |  IP: Logged
