The new VW campaign -- hasn't the population as a whole become loud and crass as it is? Do we really need this car company trying to start a global fad of people punching each other in the arm everytime they see a VW with the inane, "Red one," "White one," "Green one?" And in the ad, these are not gentle love taps, these are serious punches. How about the one where the kid punches his grandpa in the nuts? How uplifting. I bet some of ad agency is hoping this will catch on big time. Well, they must have their headquarters in Chicago or LA or somewhere, because if that starts happening here in New York, or even worse, Brooklyn, there are going to be lots of people with missing teeth and broken noses and cracked heads showing up in emergency rooms all over town.  |  IP: Logged Adam Martin I'm not even gonna point out the irony. Lilo and Stitch, we're looking at you! Don't you just love commercialism? What makes me insane are those web ads, and in particular that dopey looking frizzy-haired dork who's a fat lump of lard in one picture, and in the next he's buffed beyond belief, six pack and all- and complete with overly large head. Maybe a candidate for Photoshop disasters? The other one is that awful Sony 4K video projector ad that vandalises the top of Boxoffice pages. It's interesting to note the girl's head is larger than the advertised product by a ratio of 4:1. What the point of this is is beyond me. Do they think this adds credibility if what is obviously a video clip has the look of film? I guess filmphiles should be pleased, but come on, the amount of scratches and dirt (I am talking big chunks of hair and emulsion scratches) that is imposed on the video is something you would see in the worst girnd houses. What's the point. The other night they even applied the stupid effect to still photos. WTF? Why are people who work in and create video trying to make their stuff look like film? He even interrupts the cheery McDonald's counter girl, and when she gets to finish her pitch, he is even MORE douchey with his "Talk to me." If I were her, I'd let that hot coffee to my talking for me, right in his face! I remember SNL doing it over 20 years ago. It was kinda fun to watch the same scratch and piece of dirt loop through several times. People who do this in "news" are idiots. A similar and equally awful, though long used, technique is adding gunfire and plane noises and whatever to SILENT newsreel footage. They'll run clips of WWI war footage and put in the sound effects. Same with WWII, but at least there was sound in WWII (the footage was still shot silent). It's still fake, all that battle stuff was shot silent. Of course, most of the WWI newsreel footage, US variety, was staged. I insisted that the sounds were edited in and he insisted that they were recorded live on scene and "that's how it really sounded".
