Author Topic: The "What makes me go insane!" thread Frank Angel Film God Posts: 5305 From: Brooklyn NY USA Registered: Dec 1999 posted 02-15-2010 08:45 PM                        Used to be that CBS got Walter Cronkite to introduce the CBS Evening News once Katie Couric took over. And good ole Walter did the intro in his velvety, gravitas voice. And he PRONOUNCED HER NAME CORRECTLY -- i.e., Katie Cour-ick. So Walter dies and the CBS News Division scrables to get another announcer to do the intro out of respect for the great Apollo of news anchors, not to mention it's a little creepy having a dead guy introduce the current anchor....I mean she's got enough trouble as it is; she doesn't need what some might consider a bad luck omen. OK, so now they've got Morgan Freeman to do the intro and hel-LOOO, didn't anyone tell the guy how to pronouncer her name? When he reads the seven word/single line script, didn't anyone in the recording studio think to tell him, HEY, buddy, her name is COU-ric, not KA-ric. I mean is he THAT big an actor that even the producer of the newcast was afraid to correct him? Even Katie herself didn't feel it necessary to point out that he MISPRONOUNCES HER NAME! What makes it even more glaring is that he says, "The CBS Evening News with Katie KARick," and 10 seconds later she is on screen and says, "Good Evening, I'm Katie COU-ric." Makes me scream at the TV the minute he says it. My lady gets reeeealy annoyed when I do that, but not nearly as annoyed as I get because this mistake screams right back at me. It's like the Emporer's New Cloths -- everyone seems to be acting like they just don't hear it. I even went to the CBS website to see if I could leave one of my sarcastic comments but they either deliberately leave a comment page off or have hidden it so well that no one can find it. The other thing that rubs me wrong about this -- there are hundreds, maybe thousands of voice-over artist in New York City....Morgan Freeman doesn't have enough work? He's got to steal a job from a REAL VO artist? I am sure he's a nice guy and all (except for the fact that he's not able to hear the way someone pronounces their name and then repeating that same pronounciation), but is he that hard up that he really needs to take a job away from some guy who needs it a lot more than him? How about you give someone else a shot, jackass. Well, this is what CBS gets for not hiring a REAL VO artist....they wind up with an actor (with all the shortcomings THAT implies) who obviously needs a director to get him to do it right. They wanted a famous person to do it, not some unknown; and 2. Everybody seems to like Morgan Freeman. (Well...almost everybody!) ------ Back on topic: I hate it when people say "EK-cetera." It is "ET cetera," boneheads! I had a friend who instead of saying "except," would say "butcept." Drove me crazy. So I shot him. It can be amusing, but it's not something that pisses me off. "But-cept" would have caused me to smile many times. I know a guy who used to say and write "mine as well" instead of "might as well". He has since learned and corrected himself. I don't quite understand why, just a habit I guess. The guy couldn't spell for shit either and constantly bugged everyone sitting near him with spelling questions. He refused to use any of the spell checker utilities available. Irritated the hell out of everyone in the SOC.
