I was polite, I was sweet. I explained that Mr. Freeman is not pronouncing Katie's name correctly. "Of course he is Sir; why would you say that?" she asked, almost as if I had spoken a sacrilege. I said, "Well, have you HEARD the CBS Evening News intro?" "Yes I have, Sir " she said, "And there is nothing wrong with it." So I explained that Morgan Freeman says, KAR-ic, not COUR-ic. At this she sounded incredulous -- "Of course he doesn't; I listen every night. He says 'Katie COUR-ic;' that's the correct pronounciation." Now I am incredulous, "You're kidding, right?" "No I am not," she answers (she's getting a little annoyed). "He says COUR-IC because COUR-ic is the RIGHT pronounciation." "Oh, so you agree COUR-ic is the way Katie pronounces it, yes?" "Yes." Now she's moved from a little annoyed to testy; I am matching her and going about ten ticks past testy. "And you are saying you hear NO difference between the way it's pronounced in the voice-over and the way Katie pronounces it immediately after that?" "No, there is no difference because we wouldn't have it pronounced wrong in the intro. Morgan Freeman was paid a LOT of money," she says like she's an insider in the know. Think about it, Sir (the word Sir now being said biteing thru her teeth (which I now envision as bucked); the implication of course that I am NOT thinking. "We just wouldn't have Katie Couric's name mispronounced in the intro to the CBS Evening News. "THINK about it," she says again. "There are over a hundred people up there who work on the show; they wouldn't let it be mispronounced night after night." I started to say maybe there's mass hysteria up there causing everyone not to hear a mistake because that would just be too too embarassing for everyone, but she cut me off with a very stern and officious, "Sir, thank you for your interest in the CBS Evening News. I will relay your comment." Sure you will, I say to myself. I said, "Fine; tell Katie KAR-ic I wish her the best of luck." Morgan Freeman does not say "KARic," but he doesn't quite pronounce it correctly either -- he says "CURRic" as opposed to "COURic." Now that could be due to the slight accent that Mr. Freeman has. I will say one thing though....it doesn't sound all that good, considering it's Morgan Freeman, a talented voice. The Cronkite intro sounded much better. The Freeman track was done in the presence of the show's executive producer, and she herself signed off on it. Additionally, she hears it every night thru her foldback monitor as she's going on. So, I'm gonna have to side with CBS on this one. Between Freeman's folksy delivery and his slight accent, I think he's closer to correct than not. The idea that it "doesn't bother" Katie Couric doesn't have much weight though. I mean, if CBS was paying "a lot of money" to a movie star the stature of Morgan Freeman, even someone as important as Katie Couric would have a hard time saying "I don't like it!" She'd be more likely to grin and bear it (remembering that salary she's making), and then gripe about it years from now in a tell-all memoir.  |  IP: Logged James. R. Currently? Playstation 3 system "activation." A couple hours ago I tried to download a movie trailer from the Playstation store, but was denied because my new PS3 could not be activated. I already have another PS3 activated on my account. That system must first be "deactivated" before the new one can be used to download movies, trailers, etc. Here's the catch: I can't deactivate the other PS3 on my account because the damned thing was STOLEN! If Sony really needs to do this activate/deactivate bullshit why can't they simply go by the MAC address, machine ID, serial number of whatever else could be used to uniquely identify each PS3 system? Furthermore, why isn't Sony doing this sort of thing anyway whenever PS3 systems log into the Playstation network? It might help track down or at least remotely "brick" stolen PS3 systems. I know Sony can fix this issue on their end. I've already e-mailed their customer service department about this, but I'll probably have to call them on the phone and talk further. I'll send them copies of the receipts for both stolen and new systems. I've already given them the serial numbers via e-mail. BTW, Sony's PS3 system registration page on their web site doesn't work worth a damn. I don't know if they want the bar code number from the system or it's retail packaging box. It doesn't matter because none of it works. Not the bar code from the back of the PS3 system and nothing from the box either. The funny thing is I was able to download and install all the games and themes I purchased from the Playstation store. I just can't download any movie trailers or other video related content. I can sign into friends accounts and download what they had previously downloaded for free and even use it on my own account. Why you are getting this error is quite odd. However I never try to download video stuffs on any accounts. You did say that you called Sony and had them do something. All my downloaded games and themes work fine. I just can't download any movie trailers because of this system activation nonsense. There's no way to deactivate the stolen system on my end. There's no option for it under "Account Management>System Activation." There's nothing available on Sony's Playstation web site either. Basically my account details are fine. The machine hardware is the issue. I can't get the new PS3 slim activated because the old 80GB Motorstorm system is still activated on my account. Sony will have to deactivate that stolen machine on their end.  |  IP: Logged
