You wouldn't believe how much the old (1926) building I live in shook. It was enough to make some of the water slosh outta the toilet! Some of my kitchen cabinets & closet doors flew open, but no real damage here. Except: This Radio In My Kitchen Nearly Shook Itself Off Of The Shelf I Seem To Have A Few New Cracks In The Plaster Above My Bathroom Door Later, I walked down to the theater near my house to check on things there. All OK except for a few things that fell off the shelves in the storage room, and SOMEBODY is going to have to re-stage the candy! Prelminary estimates rate the quake as a 6.1 on the Richter scale, which is a pretty good size shaker! (In my neighborhood, which is known as "The Richmond District" we rate quakes according to "the Richmond scale", which is how many BMW car alarms get set off)  |  IP: Logged Frank Cox Film God Posts: 2234 From: Melville Saskatchewan Canada Registered: Apr 2011 posted 08-24-2014 12:14 PM                        Doesn't the earthquake mis-align the projectors in the theatre? Or do you have them bolted down or something to prevent that? All that I'm dealing with here today is more rain. Yay. So far there's a bit of water dripping from the ceiling in one portion of my basement; I've just now put a couple of pails under the drips. If that's as bad as it gets, it's not too bad. Since the big flood a few weeks back I've been working on putting channels in around the edges of my basement to direct the water into my sumps. We'd always run special stuff, trade screenings and prints for the higher echelons of corporate employees. It was always fun sifting through the cans trying to find the proper ones when breaking down a print. I was glad when I got to the Mann Chinese 16. And sorry, no cape..but I was not wearing anything at all under that suit..it was for a challenge on my sportbike rider's forum. I rode "commando" in my full race leather suit. It was shall we say, arousing. And that pic made something more obvious to me..I really need to update my profile pic on here..the one I have now is really bad, you can tell I was not doing well and had a lot of extra weight on. And there's about the same amount of film again which isn't visible in this pic. And here's one of them in action - a full-aperture silent print, hence threaded to bypass the optical sound reader altogether. Thanks to the very high RPMs of the Norelco shutter, they're almost flicker-free, even as low as 17 FPS. Writing on the wall, though: we've got four major festivals this month, of which Cinecon is the first. As it's essentially an archival festival dedicated to showing rare and difficult-to-see movies, almost all of the five-day program is on 35mm: only one feature (Meet Me in St. Louis) and a couple of Chaplin shorts were DCPs. And it looks like it's in really good condition, too. I've never seen one before. Where did you get it? ebay or something like that? This came around about 1959-60 and was made by REMCO. I wanted this for Christmas so bad I even made a personal trip to the Shopping Center to remind Santa that this was the number one thing I wanted for Christmas. I was 10 yrs old. So on Christmas Morning I'm up at 5am expecting this to be under the Christmas tree. Well it wasn't! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F1zM7sSbU4w In it's place was an Opaque Projector from a Company I can't even remember. Too say I was disappointed was an understatement. Too make a long story short. My parents told me years later that none of the Major Retail Stores had it in stock at Christmas,it was either a popular toy then,or wasn't popular. I never ever saw one owned by any other kid I knew. so in haste they got me the other projector; which actually was a neater piece. However when I was looking at Vintage Toys on EBAY last year. I saw this and memories came about and I had to have it. It's in Pristine Condition and has all the 16mm Film strips. It was never a movie projector type drive-in, which was kind of disappointing. More of a Film-Strip theater; But it's neat to have something you thought you could never live with out even if it cost probably 20 times more than it originally cost I also have one of these Excel P42 Toy Televisions which actually had a 16mm type projector in the back.
