Casper is an adopted cat. GF wanted a cat so we went to the Animal Welfare Society. We had to fill out an application and interview and the whole thing. It would have been easier to adopt an orphan from Africa! Makes sense that the cat of a guy who runs a theater would play in popcorn sacks! . He must have been a theater cat! I don't know what it is with cats and paper bags. Like you say, it must be the crinkly sound and the texture. With those old popcorn sacks, it might also be the smell. Figure if cats hunt mice and rats that often hang out in stores of grain, they might make an olfactory association with the scent of popcorn as a hunting ground of sorts. I don't know... just a guess. Kenneth, cats are STILL worshipped as gods. As for cats being worshipped as gods, I was once accused of being Satanic and unchristian by someone whose train of logic was that the ancient Egyptians worshipped cats, the ancient Egyptians were bad people whose asses God collectively kicked (for more on this, see Exodus or the film The Ten Commandments), and therefore anyone who likes cats now is similarly a bad person. However, this individual had many other, even wackier beliefs (if you've seen the Kevin Smith movie Red State, he reminds me of the lead character a little bit), so I didn't take it too personally...  |  IP: Logged Paul Mayer Oh get out of it Melvin, before it pulls you under! Wouldn't trade him for anything. Paul, be careful about putting a black cat and a white cat together. They might cancel each other out and disappear! Casper is very quiet and well behaved. I rarely hear him make a sound besides the occasional "murr" (half meow, half purr) except when we put him in his carrier to go to the vet. Besides that, I haven't heard him make sounds more often than I can count on one hand. He doesn't tear things up. He doesn't get on the counters. He's very clean, too. I have a cheapo Oriental rug on the floor near the front door for wiping feet, etc. That's the place where he's allowed to scratch and claw and he is good about sticking to his designated scratching place. Only a few times has he scratched on the sofa. We just tell him "no" and he gives us that look like, "I wasn't doing anything, honest!" (BTW: Cat's claws grow in layers like an onion. The outer layers need to be sloughed off. Scratching pulls off those old, dead layers.) As for his crinkling and tearing place, I have a big stack of broadsheet sized newsprint that I used to pack dishes and stuff when I moved. I've got so much that I'll never use it all. I just put one of those on the floor and Casper goes to town on it all he wants. If I had known he was going to be such a cheap date, I could have saved a fortune on cat toys! Leo, I used to be married to somebody with a personality like that. There were times when you couldn't mention any subject without being led down some "irrefutable" path of logic to some half-baked conclusion. There was just too much of a light range for me to be able to redeem this one in Photoshop: lower the exposure and contrast (working from the raw scan, shot on Fuji Velvia 50 using a Leica M2 and 50mm lens, scanned on a Pacific Image 3650 - an old scanner, admittedly, but it can still see a helluva lot of detail) and detail in her forehead goes away. The range in the shot was just so great that either you have to lose detail in the "whited out" as you see it now, or at the dark end. Pity - otherwise, it would have been a lovely pic. There's a window on the other side of the bannister, and at the moment I took this photo, direct sunlight was blazing straight through it. Ten minutes later, and the original shot would probably have captured some detail in the whited out part. But ask a kitty to come back and do that pose ten minutes later? Raised him from a kitten that fit in my palm(abandoned). He was just under 20lbs as an adult. He was so bad ass. Great cat. We just called him "Cat" and he responded to it. Would come when called most of the time. Didn't even mind water too much. He would hop in the shower with me occasionally. He was more like a dog than a cat... he liked rough petting and horseplay. I had him for about 13 years, got him as a kitten that fit in my hand. He was big, weighed in at 16 lbs as an adult. He hated that brush in the picture, he would attack and bite it when I tried to use it on him. But he (and Turbo) will let me brush them with MY hairbrush..) Shortly afterwards, a new furball found me. Meet Turbo: He loves sitting on my motorcycles (yes they are kept in the house) and generally getting into trouble. He was evidently abandoned or a runaway because he was outside, skinny and had a collar with no ID tags outside my old apartment in L.A. He followed me upstairs and the rest is history. Turbo is also a big cat, he's at 20lbs right now (and on a diet as I think he's too fat.) He will not play with any toys I buy for him (if someone else buys a toy he'll play with it for a while) and prefers post-it notes, plastic bottle caps and any electrical hardware I leave laying around. I recently may have found out what happened to him and why he was outside. I was playing a video on my computer of a house fire, and when the smoke alarm on the video went off Turbo woke up in a panic, ran around the house to the doors and ended up hiding under the bed. (Normally loud noises don't bother him much, but the alarm at low volume did.) So I think he was in a house or apartment that caught fire and got out during the chaos and ran away. Gizmo was fully toilet trained, Turbo will pee but not poo in the toilet unless I catch him in time and put him on the seat. Every cat I have ever had or known liked to play in water. Water dish. Sink. Bathtub. Faucet. I think that most cats do like water just so long as the water isn't bigger than they are. BTW: Here's Casper's picture from the vet. Casper's vet likes to get pictures of their patients because you can't ask a cat or a dog what its name is. If they have a picture of the animal it's a positive ID. (We also got Casper microchipped.)
