DAYTONA BIKE WEEK(March) Only supercedes STURGIS for Motorcycle Rallies and Racing. I went to Daytona every year from 1967 to 1982 mainly for the Daytona 100 & 200 Roadrace. Yamaha won the 100 race for so many years they should have renamed the event as the YAMAHA 100. The last time Harley-Davidson won the 200 race was 1969(Cal Rayborn) In order for HD to win another roadrace they conned the AMA into instituting an 883cc class. Well of course they won that race who else made a 883 Motorcyle? What was hilarious though is the 125cc Moto-GP Bikes could turn faster lap times. Color TV Commentator and former RRer Nick Inaush(sp);referred to the 883 Race as "Watching Paint Dry" Class which didn't please HD Brass since he said it on National TV [Eek!] [puke] [beer]

I've got an '03 Ford Ranger (Regular-cab XLT, Sonic Blue, 2.3L I4, RWD). It's such a small truck, but still great. I'm really starting to understand why Ford trucks are so popular. Shame they discontinued the Ranger line though. [Frown]

True, for it was a great little pickup.

BUT...

It is a lot more easier to get people into leases when you can flash a F-150 in their face for the lesser lease price than a Ranger would be under a regular purchase contract.

.. it's not rocket science to figure out where money can be made.

Chevy's Colorado is still on the market, but found out that Dodge wants to drop the Dakota for the same above reason - to concentrate on the full sized units.

I'm really hoping that they bring back a Ranger-like pickup for my next purchase, which will probably be in about 7 years. If they don't, I may have to go to my first "non-Ford" which I would hate to do since the Ford dealer here is one of our best customers at the parts store -- plus I've always liked Ford products anyway.

When I bought my '11 Ranger I don't see how you could have leased an F-150 for the same price -- an F-150 is over $40,000 and the Ranger was $23-something. Outside of the body size and all that entails, the main difference is all the electronic bells'n'whistles -- my Ranger is the exact same as the 2002 model it replaced, technologywise.

I like the Ranger for its smallish size. It's perfect for waht I need and fits nicely into the garage at the house...an F-150 would be a tight fit.

I heard they're still making them in Brazil....maybe I'll have to go down there and buy one and drive it home! But I will cross that bridge in a few years I guess.

Dealers over here are pumping F-150's out the gate for about 4 grand more than the price of a new Ranger - after all of the incentives are all used up.

I bought my friend's little '87 Ranger Long Bed for 800 bucks with being in cherry condition a few years back. Kinda wish I kept it, but pushing on that clutch was beginning to hurt my knee up pretty bad (and it was hydraulic, but heard that Mazda made the trannies, thus wasn't too user friendly), thus sold it for 1500 bucks. Thing only had 72K miles on it on that 4cyl motor.

Only thing that kinda got me about that setup was the placement of the "t-stat" being in the upper radiator hose itself and not in a t-stat housing as other makes uses.

I don't know what FORD was doing between 2003 and later on the RANGER;but a friend of mine wanted to know where his RANGER was built so he gave me his VIN Number and I just typed 2003 FORD RANGER in GOOGLE and it brought up several recalls from everything concerning interior lighting to under the hood. I asked him if he ever got any notices from FORD concerning recalls(The Truck was assembled in Minnesota) and he said no notices. It has the V6 which in that light of PU should be fairly snotty but he says the truck is a dog. I told him he needs to go see the FORD DEALER and discuss all these recalls(that he never received notices) for his year truck and also have the Computer checked to see why his engine seems so Doggy. I'm beginning to wonder since the Big Three and even HONDA,TOYOTA,NISSAN are having so many recalls lately if their customers are actually getting notified or do they expect everyone to be on the Internet and your supposed to check it out yourself. GM sure covered up the Gas Pedal situation for years...

Good luck on that Mike; I doubt you would be able to bring that Truck back in the US. South America doesn't have anywhere close to emission standards as we do, even the NON-STRICTIST States outside of California. The Old Volkswagon Beetle was being made down in VENEZUELA and called the "FUSCA"(sp) It looks identical to a 73 beetle but you can't import one back to the States because it won't pass Emission Standards. They were like 8 thousand dollars just a few years ago. I heard they may not even be produced any longer but that would sure be a bargain price when you see what a new one cost. You can thank the good ole EPA for the import ruling. They are so concerned for our welfare [puke]

I wasn't serious about going to Brazil, that would be crazy.

I have gotten 2 recall notices on my '11 Ranger, one was about a fuel emission sensor problem (which it turned out mine did not have the "bad" part, the issue had been fixed before mine was built) and one about the multifunction switch being prone to shorting out. The switch was just replaced last Tuesday, although it had been working fine.

The truck is 3 years old, about 90% stop-n-go type in-town driving and never a problem yet, except some jackass put a small dent in the right front fender.

It's to my understanding that Ford trucks are notorious for having lots and lots of stupid little issues that can easily borderline the level of recall-worthy. I actually just recently repaired a vacuum leak caused by a plug that fell out. That's it. There was a plug on the intake manifold, and then it fell out. Why is it even there? Why isn't better secured? Etc.

But hey, it's a trade-off. For the amount of little issues they have, they're insanely easy to fix. Pretty cheap too. Replacement parts don't tend to cost too much.

*EDIT: Ford and Mazda shared production on the Ranger/BX000. In 2011, Ford discontinued the Ranger in North America, but they still make a T-something version of it internationally. I believe Mazda still does their rendition of the truck too.

And this is what galls me with US automaking in general: Why not build the thing RIGHT the first time so no recalls or these stupid little issues will ever come to surface instead of the major ones that GM is facing and above mentioned with FORD?

Guess these automakers want to keep their hands in your pockets knowing that you'll come back to them as loyal customers every three years.

Didn't have these problems with all the import vehicles I purchased..and why I drive a KIA and plan on keeping it until the wheels fall off.

The United Auto Workers(UAW)have such a powerfully Strong Union that many of their workers could care less about little issues that end up falling on Dealers/customers to fix. The Assembly line Plants don't like to ruffle their feathers because they know a Wildcat Strike could happen anytime. My Racing Friend's Wife worked for Chrysler making the equivalent of about 80 dollars an hour with benefits and percs. Everytime I use to call her at work; their Crew was outside goofing off because some equipment had broken down. I said are you going home;Oh no we'll put our 8hrs in one way or another...

These UAW Workers are going to be in for a Rude awakening one day; when all their Jobs end up in China and they might be having to flip burgers again. Why; if I'm the CEO or upper management of the Big 3 want to pay someone 60 or more dollars an hour plus insurance, etc. When a Chinese Worker probably gets 10 dollars a day maybe and will put out an equal product. It's coming;one day your Ford, chevy, dodge is going to have made in China stickers all over it just like a million other products we buy...

Buck: with that V6 setup of yours, that's a "ramp and crawl underneath the car" job to get to the back three !
No easier that way either unfortunately!

The best way to do it(also specified in the factory service manual) is to remove the strut tower brace(Metal bar from one strut tower to the other to improve handling/body rigidity), then remove both front upper engine mounts, then pull the engine forward about 3 inches and replace one of the front mounts except with one bolt going through a maintenance-only hole in the mount to keep the engine forward.

Still one hell of a job, guaranteed to have your arm all cut up and bleeding by the end of it, but at least possible at that point.

Fun times.

Steve Matz and all: Changed out plugs today and did the "side gap" mod on the new plugs I bought to be installed in my Turbo Laser.

All I can say is: "Very Impressive" - one can tell the increased power when the fuel mixture is more ignited when one can feel a decent increase in power.

I even had to turn down the idle speed a bit since the tach jumped up almost 100 rpm at idle after the changeout.

Not too bad at all.

Thx - Monte

[thumbsup] Thanks for being the Forum's Test Mule Monte! [beer]

Maybe why Ford has these recalls is the Assembly Line Workers seeing what the yearly salary of their CEO is. I just got my September "CAR and DRIVER" and on page 16 called Money Makers-It
lists the Yearly Salaries of 7 CEO's....Check out what FORD'S CEO
makes compared to GM & TOYOTA's BOSSES [Eek!]

FORD MOTOR CO ....ALAN MULALLY.....$23,204,534.00 [puke]

GENERAL MOTORS ...DANIEL AKERSON....$9,068,476.00

TOYOTA ...........AKIO TOYODA.......$2,216,766.00 [Confused]

VOLKSWAGON .......MARTIN WINTERKORN.. $19,920,167.00

DIAMLER...........DIETER ZETSCHE....$11,148,281.00

BMW...............NORBERT REITHOFER..$9,336,037.00

TRW AUTOMOTIVE....JOHN PLANT........$17,820,986.00

Privately held CHRYSLER doesn't share details
of CEO SERGIO MARCHIONNE's pay, other than to say
he didn't accept a salary in 2013(oh poor me [fu] )
but the Italian half of FIAT CHRYSLER paid him about
5 Million...

I suspect the reason GM's CEO isn't on par with FORD
is the Big coverup on the Gas Pedal issue. Things always
have a way of coming back on your company. If you check the
salary of former GM CEO's,This guy is on welfare

Toyota really stumps me; but this is what it should be;No CEO
Should be getting the kind of pay they do for essentially sitting
on their A$$ in an office atmosphere. The disparage in pay from the
employees that actually MFGer and Assemble your Product is completely ridiculous

Maybe you'd prefer a country where the salaries are regulated by the government, would that be better?

People who gripe about high-paid CEOs and who think their money should all be taken and given to the "little people" forget one thing: There is only one CEO in a given company! But there might be tens of thousands of workers! Just to do some very quick math, if a CEO is making 20 million dollars, and there are 50,000 workers in the company, and you took the CEO's entire wage and distributed it to the workers, they would each get a whopping four hundred bucks. Not exactly money that's going to put them on the road to a better life.
