A potential format Dolby is working on is 11.1...which has not one, but TWO surround overhead channels. They combine them with an elevated LC/RC speakers behind the screen to make "flyovers" and such more effective. It is still an experimental format. The Abingdon CineMall in Abingdon, VA and the YRC Cinemas in Hayes, VA. Abingdon was first confirmed commercial theatre for Surround 7.1. Disney/Technicolor sent out test material for those theatres that indicated they were to install the new sound format to verify that all would be good on opening day. We wired Abingdon almost 2 months ago and were only awaiting Dolby's software for the CP650 to finish the job. Won't this movie be in Disney Surround 7.1, not Dolby 7.1?  |  IP: Logged David Stone Film Handler Posts: 75 From: Hornsby, Sydney, Australia Registered: Jun 2008 posted 05-20-2010 03:43 AM                     Hi everyone, I insatalled a CP750 for 7.1 surround sound 2 weeks ago,luckly I already had Ex and thus no major expense other than trading in a as new DMA8+, and like everyone else we await Dolby to provide the software. We did however screen a 15 minute pixar 7.1 short in 5.1 and it was very impressive...I hope the 7.1 is mixed as well or better..I have a 65 feet wide auditorium which helps greatly with separation and effects.
