Note screenings in all formats start the evening of Thursday, July 20, as expected.

5/70mm venues for the Denver area are the previously confirmed Regal Continental in Denver and the AMC Westminster 24 in Westminster, CO, both Hateful Eight screens that are far from the largest house in either complex (auditoriums 9 and 20, respectively.)

The long official US/Canada list published some days ago, and I've copied it to http://www.in70mm.com/news/2017/dunkirk/index.htm

However, it turns out, the list was incomplete, as Grand Lake (CA) - as an example - wasn't in the official list. I also got an e-mail from Oklahoma City with an AMC not on the list.

"Dunkirk" will have its world premiere in Dunkirk on the 16th with Mr. Nolan attending.

Anyway, thanks for all the assistance the past few weeks.

Thomas,

Re: your Colorado listings, the Regal Continental is in Denver and the Westminster Promenade is in Westminster.

Thank you for your reporting on this. You are doing a better job getting the word out than WB.

I visited the AMC Elmwood 20 in Harahan, LA, just west of New Orleans yesterday and checked out auditorium 14, where Dunkirk will be showing in 70MM. The screen isn't very big, and they were projecting Despicable Me 3 "letterboxed" with empty black screen at the top and bottom. Focus was soft. Unfortunately, this is the only option for people in Louisiana.

Considering this, along with the small, flawed screens showing Dunkirk in Colorado, it seems that Mr. Nolan's efforts are pointless in much of the country.

When I walked in, I asked the ticket ape which auditorium would be showing Dunkirk in 70MM. He started to look through his listings for the day. I explained to him that it wasn't out yet. He said, "oh well it could be any of them." I went online and figured it out.

Shame on AMC. Your managers should be teaching your floor staff about this event.

Smdh.

In San Francisco we will have one more new 70mm set up at the Drafthouse New Mission Theatre for Dunkirk. This will be a first time a true 70mm movie film has run in a old Mission St movie theatre ever. Will look great on their large screen. A big thanks to Tim League for bringing in 70mm projectors for your remodeled New Mission Theatre. Now you can give some competition to the old Castro Theatre and run some 70mm film classics from time to time in San Francisco.

Turnover is too high and pay is too low for anyone to care.

Manager 1: Hey, big release coming up. Dunkirk, some WW2 movie, same guy who made that space thing... ya know, Interstellar.
Manager 2: Ah, the one who blew our speakers the other day?
Manager 1: Yeah, big deal. We're going to show it in 70 millimeter in one of our screens.
Manager 2: That's some caliber.
Manager 1: Yeah, ya know, it's on actual film, you know those big spools of film we used to play?
Manager 2: Yeah, I remember. But why? I thought film was dead?
Manager 1: Yeah, it sorta is, but this Interstellar guy keeps pushing out movies on film and there are just a few locations left that can actually show it. Apparently, people from all over the country come to see it in those locations.
Manager 2: You're serious? Just to see it in what? 70 millimeter? And we're one of them locations?
Manager 1: You know Johnny from concessions? The old guy who was cheaper to keep than to fire a few years back?
Manager 2: The guy who knows to fix the nacho cheese warmer? What's up with him?
Manager 1: Back 6 or 7 years ago, you know when that digital thing happened? They threw out all those bulky machines, you now them projectors and replaced it with those digital things? We sold all of them for scrap, except those from screen #1. The big one, the mothership.
Manager 2: The only one I actually watch movies in?
Manager 1: Yeah, well, Johnny told us we should keep them, because they were special. But we really had no room for those bulky things in #1, because you know the 3D and stuff, so we shoved them down the corridor back into screen #42, one of them shoe-boxes. Johnny said, he was sure we gonna need them one day. And bam, you see, he was right. And since we kept him around, he can do some actual work for his money, instead of popping corn and heating nachos, he can run that shit. I've not seen him this excited in years.
Manager 2: What about MovieShack down the road?
Manager 1: They threw all of that old shit out, so we're the only ones within hundreds of miles running the movie in 70 millimeter.
Manager 2: Shouldn't we put it in big letters on the marquee and... maybe do some stuff with the local news. Get the word out?
Manager 1: Nah, you know those folks who usually visit us, they couldn't give a flying f*ck if it's 70 millimeter, a thousand millimeters or whatever. Those who do give a f*ck, they'll read it on the Internet somewhere and they will come.
Manager 2: Won't they be disappointed they'll see it in one of our smallest screens?
Manager 1: What do we care? They'll see it in 70 f*cking millimeters, we're not lying, are we?
Manager 2: I guess we're not.

Surprisingly enough, the AMC in Westminster, CO has really gone all out with the studio cardboard POP and door/window clings all advertising "See it here in 70mm."

Though the theater they will be showing 70mm in is smaller than the locations four main "large houses," I did confirm that it (auditorium 20) does have a capacity of 294 (which is actually more than many smaller theaters' large houses.)

I think Warner Bros. or whoever created that 70mm logo could have done a better job with it. The result seems a little bland. I'm pretty tired of the Bank Gothic typeface. The designer made alterations to the stock lettering (such as getting rid of the ink traps on the "M" glyphs). The zero looks like the Target store icon with hurricane speed stripes added to it.

Maybe they wanted the zero to convey the Royal Air Force roundels painted on fighter planes. But none of the RAF markings used Bank Gothic (even though the typeface was created by ATF in 1930). I'm still seeing the Target bullseye.

The following description is from the website of one of the DUNKIRK
70mm venues. (emphasis is mine):

"70mm film offers a brighter, clearer image, with 3 times the resolution
of standard projection formats, using the process of projecting light
through celluloid to deliver clear images in rich analog color
with
state-of-the-art digital sound."

Gee, who would have thought that you could get "rich analog color"
by just projecting light through some celluloid. [thumbsup]
