So nice to see the words Dunkirk 70mm on their marquee. The New Mission is one of a few theatres that still has plastic marquee letters in SF. Looked crisp and clear and some of the best base stereo sound of any theatre in SF. Hell, here in my town the best the movie theaters and studios can do is show a little postage stamp ad with the theater name, phone number and web URL. And that's only on Friday and Saturday. Of course, the newspapers have done their own part, steadily raising the price of ads per column inch and that's despite declining circulation numbers. I don't think the movie studios miss running big newspaper stack ads either. They certainly don't miss the cost of the ads. But if they wanted to do so they could just as easily make their own Internet-based stack ads for different regions of the country. No, it's not. If you read all the way to the bottom, you will see the Grand Lake as well as the Kerasotes ICON in Chicago. Unfortunately I wasn't too impressed by the image. I thought it looked a little dark and was expecting a brighter image. Wonder if this projector bulb was already dyiing? Anyway, the sound is what really stood out. I've never heard this auditorium sound so alive and powerful. Is there usually a special calibration done for 5/70 presentations these days? It was also nice and loud too. I meant to ask if there was a request from the studio for projectionist "not" to lower the fader as some theaters do. As we all know people complain about loudness and some theaters usually dial down from 7. Management at this particular theater has told me they never play movies at 7. They worry about complaints and blowing their speakers.
