Jeremy, Mike and Scott (and the rest of you) are totally correct...

Frank, which theatre are you at? It would be fun to build across the street from you and take all your customers away.. You know, I don't play the trash nazi with my customers, and we can seem to keep our building clean anyway...

Here's a couple reasons why reminding customers to pick up their trash seems both unwise and futile...

You're potentially creating an unnecessary negative "standout moment" that the customer will associate with their visit to your theater. Could even be embarrassing to them too. Everything about a paying customer's experience should be as positive as possible.
When your theater is busy, you can't possibly be "catching" more than a very small percentage of the litterbugs. So what's the point? You still have that other 95% of the trash to pick up.
If your theater is *not* busy, then the amount of trash to be picked up can't be all that great. So again, what is the point?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but has even 1 person agreed with you about reminding customers to clean up after themselves? [Confused]

You hit the nail on the head here! If you annoy your customers, they will go somewhere else. Very few theatres have no direct competition, and, even those that do not have indirect competition from DVDs and TV.

Frank, you can complain about it all you want, but, in the end, it sounds like you just don't like cleaning auditoriums. Perhaps you would be happier working in a museum IMAX that doesn't sell food at all (there has to be one in Cleveland), as the first run houses are 100% dependant on those food sales to survive.

LOL, I dont know ANYONE who does, but thats beside the point. It wasnt the point of my discussion at all. And by the way, I'm quite happy where I'm at. If we have upset customers, it doesnt show. We dont get negative comments at all. Our attendence has grown year after year. This year wasnt all that great, but thats because the movies have sucked. My way seems to be working for me. Thats the point I'm trying to make. Its funny that all of you tell me I'm wrong, when it works for me. Peace....

Frank,

This is a Forum. If you don't expect feedback, don't post your comments. As I'm sure you've discovered, like yourself, poeple on Film-Tech love their professions and like to share their opinions. There is a lot of collective experience speaking here. I agree that majority isn't always right, but this is very near unanimous, and that at least borders on, we've learned from our mistakes, so we're right. [Wink]
