Nationwide Passion was down -69% Wednesday and -48% Thursday. This way, at the end of two weeks PASSION will have an impressive 265 million. Though lesser than ROTK for the same frame, the drop in the the third and fourth week for PASSION will not be as intense as it was for ROTK, I predict. In fact, for two other films SPIDERMAN and PHANTOM MENACE, it was the third and fourth weeks which did not see a very big drop that proved crucial for both the films to cross 400 million each. It is a no brainer that this movie will make big money everywhere. The whole risk factor was only in the minds of studio execs looking for excuses not to pick up this movie. In fact, this movie will even exceed ROTK grosses in some non muslim countries outside the Western European zone. And worldwide, it will probably earn close to what ROTK did. In fact, depending on how it is marketed in Eastern Europe and some asian countries, I won't be surprised to see it exceed ROTK's grosses. I can see missionaries do free marketing for this movie in underdeveloped countries as they will view this as their recruiting tool. The Lord of the Rings is not that well known in every part of the world compared to the story of Christ. I see Kamkshipalya put a ton of posts about this subject. Nationally Passion dropped 39% according to EDI, and 36% according to Rentrak. Our Passion numbers dropped 64% This can be attributed to the following reasons: 1. We opened a better film week two than did other theatres. (Fog of War) 2. We live in a more liberal, less conservative city. 3. Not including private shows. No percentage drop. In fact when I talked to Todd he was pretty sure it might be a percentage increase on week two. Looks like I'll be a part time shift manager for a while to give people some much needed rest. At least until I find a full time job. So, hopefully I'll get to know a bit more about the actual numbers. The theatre I was working at in Virginia was booked for weeks so I can only assume the numbers held there as well. I have to call Judy this week so I'll ask her how it's doing there. It's a fairly liberal area believe it or not but that theatre gets quite a bit of conservative business. From what I have been reading, this film isn't really being hurt by liberal areas at all and there is a significant amount of "non-believer" business which seems to be the most surprising part of the film's success. A 100 million in the first five days 2. A 400+ million for the entire run. Unless participants take a definite stand on whether they agree with the only remaining proposition, a 400+ million in its entire run for this film, this discussion about daily numbers may not build up to much significance. Many of us are now aware of the predictions made by some professional bodies, EDI, Rentrak, ER and so on. They all cite a 325+ million. Newmarket estimates between 300 and 350 million. So, in the light of all this, are you going to take any position on the remaining proposition ? Do you agree at all that this film will cross that 400 million when it is recalled from theatres ? A yes or A No. Nothing in between. Not a silence now and a quick jostle later that what happened after all was what you always knew ! Or that it was not a brainy thing after all !
