Pewaukee, WI: Capitol Cinemas Closing February 25th

The theater has been sold to a developer in Brookfield, which plans to renovate the 32,896 sq. ft. theater into two retail spaces and construct two additional multi-tenant retail and restaurant buildings.
Capitol Cinemas opened on June 23, 1995 with 12 screens, which were later reduced to 11.

New multiplex ready for its close-up

It's not the largest movie theater multiplex in Lane County, but Regal Cinemas believes it will be the best.
And it's certainly the most palatial. The brand-new, state-of-the-art theater at Valley River Center not only has 15 screens, it's got that new car smell and 3,100 plush, high-back rocking seats to go with it.
Not to mention the adjustable armrests that quickly flip back to make a seat for two.
Three straight days of $1 popcorn, to go along with $1 tickets and $1 sodas starting Monday, probably will take care of that new-construction odor of fresh plastics, coatings and glues during a weeklong grand opening for Regal Cinemas Valley River Center Stadium 15, Eugene's first new movie theater in decades.
It's a name that probably won't fit in a crossroad puzzle - and it might take moviegoers awhile to figure out what to call the place for short. But the name fits just fine with the multiplex's general manager, who moved more than halfway across the country late last year to run it.
"We're all pretty excited about this," General Manager James Rodriguez says during a tour of the multiplex. The complex replaces Regal's eight-screen Cinema World, which opened as a fourplex in the mid-1970s on nearby Valley River Way and sees its last day Sunday.
Rodriguez says the new theater's unique decor and the spaciousness of its lobby stand out among other Regal Entertainment Group multiplexes he has managed in Oklahoma and Texas.
"I've never seen one like this," he says.
Grand opening activities run for five days starting Monday with three days of $1 movies. That's followed by an invitation-only grand opening on Thursday and the public grand opening a week from today. [Dave Wants To Know: Where's my invitation??!! ![[Wink]](wink.gif) ]
To celebrate, Regal 15 will give a free small popcorn and soft drink with every ticket purchased March 9-18.
"Obviously, we're very excited for this to open," says Chad Browning, the marketing manager in Knoxville, Tenn., for Regal, the nation's largest movie theater chain with 6,403 screens in 539 locations in 39 states. "With the large auditoriums and things of that nature, we think it will do very well."
Cinemark USA Inc. of Plano, Texas, owns the largest theater complex in Lane County, operating 17- and 12-screen theaters at Gateway Mall in Springfield. Regal will be offering similar - albeit newer - bells and whistles in Eugene that have become the standard in the industry.
Regal's 73,000-square-foot multiplex on the old Montgomery Ward site at Valley River Center has two 424-seat auditoriums. The other 13 theater rooms - each with 54-foot screens - hold between 138 and 228 moviegoers.
Each room also has stadium seating, tiered so that even the Cat in the Hat clone in front of you can't block your view. There's also a party room for birthdays and other occasions, available for rent just off the lobby.
Regal 15 has the latest in high definition projection and digital surround-sound systems, and one of the 228-seat rooms will have digital projection. It will be Regal's fourth-largest multiplex in Oregon, behind an 18-screen theater in Tigard and 16-screen theaters in Portland and Bend.
The new Valley River theater greets you with that spacious, colorful lobby. The floor rises and squeaks with newness as you make your way to the blinking neon lights that say "Concessions."
Workers are still putting the finishing touches on the multiplex this week. The sound of Mike and Ike and other candies could be heard hitting the bottoms of metal bins; a couple of gentlemen in brown from United Parcel Service tried to find where to park some huge boxes; and the film "Tristan + Isolde" played on one of the screens as the fine-tuning process continued.
