I've been getting sporadic training shifts since March at other locations until the Majestic opens May 4th. In fact I have a shift @ The Majestic on April 23rd helping get things ready for the opening. I would've given this fact its own damn thread since that other one got locked, but gloating about starting as an usher would've felt kind of strange. I'm simply observing that with your sarcastic "You didn't get the job, did you?" comment (which reeks of "I told you so" snottiness) you are picking up where you left off. I think that you (and a few others) treated Mark poorly in that thread from a few weeks ago that, in my opinion, did not deserve to be locked or have its original poster banned. I figure that if I get it close enough, even you could figure it out. I think most people were just amazed at his arrogance. "I know good picture and sound when I see it, so I could be an awesome projectionist". I think he kind of started his own downfall there, but as stated, that thread is closed...for good reason. He's an usher, thats good. You don't need years of booth experience to know when an image isn't focused or even properly aimed or zoomed, something most of the the ex-Ushers around here (aka. Projectionists) either don't give 2 shits about, or they need corrective lenses. Which is it? It's rather rare I see a GOOD presentation in this area, and just because you've been doing this for so many years, to think I don't know a good presentation when I see it, that's very arrogant of YOU. I'll state it again, since things tend to get misread around here: To think it takes years of experience to know when something is fucked up looking or sounding - that's arrogant. I'm sorry if this goes against your view that everyone outside of the film tech industry is completely clueless as far as presentation quality goes, but that's simply not the case. If it was the case, this forum probably wouldn't exist, HD wouldn't exist, your job might not exist, and we'd be watching all our movies in the theatre from VHS in analog "Hi-Fi" stereo. It'd be a a lot cheaper! Finally, I'd like to know where I said I thought I knew how to fix all these issues. If I did, I wouldn't be starting as an usher, and I wouldn't have a need to be on this forum. Can we please end it? I really don't want to get banned again for simply defending myself, which I'll never stop doing. Lets just agree to disagree then, and settle on me being an arrogant know-it-all, and you being an asshole... it's cool, just own it. Apparently Michael would agree with at least the last half of that. Hell, make it part of your signature. Then at least poor noobs like myself who dare claim to know anything about anything and find themselves within your crosshairs can take your snideness with a big grain of salt. Ok? Lets get this thread back on-topic... I'll remind our friendly admin that I'm not the one who derailed it. I am more of a lurker here, but I pretty much agree with everything he stated. I am not an usher, I am a General Manager of one of those multi plexes that everyone on here seems to hate. WE DO film done right at my location, go ahead and bitch about your poor experiences. If you had the balls to actually say it, you would say it to a manager who actually cares at the location that you paid to view it. I know several other managers who do not have the time to go into each show that you claim to watch. It is simple to complain anonymously on some forum, but it is a different thing to complain to some "concessionist". So you complain to the concessionist, what do you think they can do about it? I am sick of all this crap about multi-plexes. I run an actual MEGAPLEX (16 plus screens btw) and I do a very good job of it. I don't run the booth, but I do send in the report each week to the corp office about our problems in the booth. And I care. It seems lately that all this forum is about is "I am better than you" or MOSTLY "I could do better than you". Maybe you can, maybe you can't. I do pay attention to those that post most often, and most of those are just people who like to BITCH! Which is the feeling I immediately got from Mark. I also run a megaplex, and I have the same issues. We (management) cannot go into everymovie. Thats what ushers are for. It doesn't take a college degree to tell if a movie is out of focus..if ushers around the world were doing their jobs, movies wouldn't stay out of focus for long. Being a former projectionist at a multiplex, I could not be on top of every issue at every projector...I relied on ushers to call it up immediately. If its called up, I can fix it. If a complaint goes unreported for a while, then goes to concessions, then to a manager, then to the projectionist..well...then theres a problem. May Mark do a good job ushering and get schooled on what its really like to do the job at a REAL movie theater, not simply using a TV and DVD player.  |  IP: Logged
