The posting for the School Of Visual Arts Theatre on page 74 of this thread reminded me that of the original 1961 groundbreaking promotional film for the RKO 23rd Street, which will have the latest in motion picture technology including 70mm and CinemaScope. The snipe shows the Manhattan borough president, the President of RKO Theatres, and one of the female stars from the hit 20th Century Fox film Seven Women From Hell with a hand shovel breaking ground for this new theatre.

Tonight the Hollywood Theaters Southglenn Stadium 14 opened in Centennial Colorado, just a few minutes south of Denver and not far from the Regal/United Artists Greenwood Plaza 12.

Jen and I walked in since we were in the area and the place is pretty impressive! Balconies with leather seats make the place smell like a brand new car. They clearly spent a lot of money on this place. Sony Cine-Alta 4ks run each auditorium, and each auditorium has it's own booth. Oh, and there is a built-in restaurant and all in all the place is pretty nice. Makes most other new theaters look old by comparison.

What really blew me away was how nice everyone was. When the Regal Riverpoint 14 opened here recently, no one was rude per se but you just got a bad vibe from people as if they had something to hide or weren't proud of their new theater. They didn't want to show me around and everyone seemed very self-important. At Hollywood they couldn't have been more happy to show me around, let me take pictures and answer my questions (providing I wasn't using the camera in an auditorium with a movie running, but they were only showing the original Twilight in one auditorium at the time). Our "tour guide" was a member of management but I'm not sure exactly where his rank fell, probably second in command, but he was very nice and informative since I had not heard much about the chain before. The GM was very nice as was the DM. Totally blows Regal away in hospitality. I'd choose this theater based on that alone. I have yet to see/hear their audio/video presentation.

More pics on the way, but I may put them on Cinematour instead of Film-Tech since I only have a couple of booth shots. Then again, once you've seen one all-digital booth, you've pretty much seen them all.

If Hollywood Theatres wants to continue operating in Norman, OK for years to come I think they need to replace their existing Spotlight 14 theater with something along the lines of that new build in Colorado. Warren Theaters' Moore Warren 14 is just a few miles farther north along I-35.

Bobby I agree with you on the Spotlight parking lot has half what it use to have any given day or time! Our crowds dropped here in Chickasha the first year and have returned to normal (even a bit above) this year. Not counting the last 2.5 months! But we are a poor lot here and can't afford the $9 and $18 full admission tickets that often. Still I am guessing it will be the place to take the special date from time to time for a long time to come.

AMC's Renton Village 8 (a former GCC) in Renton, WA appears to have quietly closed. There are no showtimes listed anywhere for it. AMC had said they were going to let the lease expire in November.

Ron, I don't call out people or theaters unless they need to be called out. So far this new Hollywood Southglenn theater does not need to be called out as the experience has only been positive.

They say they have a Digiplex in Colorado Springs as well. That was their first all digital theater and this is their second.

I started working at the SVA theatre as the assistant to the technical director a couple of weeks ago (thanks to fellow film techer and the theatres director Gene Stavis) and am in awe of what a truly great facility it is. I don't think I have ever seen a better on screen picture, and the only room's I have ever heard that sounded better where at Dolby's screening room in San Fransisco. We can show 16,35,and 70 mm film (we have a pair of DP-75's and a pair of simplex's, as well as a Kinoton 16mm and a Eastman 16mm "Television" projector" as well as DVD,Blu-Ray,HD-CAM,DigiBeta,BetaSP, and any other hi-def, composite, or VGA source on DLP in each of our 2 theatres. This is really the best special use venue I have had the chance to see. The theatre also has theatrical lighting, and seperate PA sound in each house. It is truly a joy to work at such a great facility!

B&B Theatres

This used to be our sister theatre back in our Litchfield and then later the Regal days. We always got treated as the ugly step-children with Regal, since we were the only 2 theatres they had in Oklahoma and nobody wanted us in their district or service area. After Regal closed it down a few years ago, a theatre chain out of Hawaii opened it back up briefly as a sub-run for about 8-9 months.

Just a bit more random trivia: This theatre used to be a TG&Y. When Litchfield converted it to a theatre in 1989 they left the loading docks in place and set some of the screens up on them. Those screens ended up with stages as a result. Nope, they never showed "Rocky Horror Picture Show".

Aside from the Moore Warren 14, how many theaters in the Oklahoma City area have installed digital projection and/or digital 3D? Previous to that, I only knew of Harkins installing one Dolby Digital Cinema system with Real D in one of their smaller houses. Has AMC or Regal done anything lately? It would seem the upcoming release of Avatar would be driving a lot of new digital 3D installations.

I may have to at least pay a visit to that new build in Colorado Springs the next time I'm up there visiting relatives.

I don't know when I'll be able to visit New York City again, but it would be fun check out the SVA theater. Is School of Visual Arts having screenings that are open to the public? Or do current students and/or alumni get any sort of special consideration?

I have to wonder exactly what they plan on doing to the exterior, considering every native B&B build I've seen has been a steel prefab building.

Pffft... Cinematour still hasn't even put up the previous two theaters I sent them over a month ago. Film-Tech is too busy with their "NOC" to put up anything now as well.
