Joe, how big are the screens at the Hollywood Theaters Southglenn Stadium 14? (It's 40 miles away. My other choices are Century Boulder (14 mi) or Mayan (21 mi)) Actually... If all the auditoriums at the Southglenn use Sony Cine-Alta 4ks, I'll probably pass. It surely isn't 19 miles away from the Mayan. Hell, the Mayan doesn't even have a parking lot that I know of. Was The Road shot on film? I do not know the answer to this one. Is the Mayan renowned for their excellent presentation quality? This I do know the answer to and it is a resounding "fuck no". They are a Landmark, after all. They are renowned because they show artsy fartsy movies so "high brow" people and elitists talk them up all day long. Posts: 3836 From: Albuquerque, NM Registered: Feb 2000 posted 11-24-2009 12:40 PM                        Resuming normal navigation, after an 11-month shutdown, construction has resumed on the ultra high-end Tivoli Village shopping mall at Queensridge in Summerlin. The project has been scaled back - the high-rise condos are gone for now - but one of the still-planned tenants is Village Roadshow Gold Class Cinemas with one of their luxury (recliner armchair seating, full-service bar, waiters) 8-screen 'plexes. This is at the corner of Alta and Rampart, right across the street from Cinemark's Century 16 Suncoast. The new theater is now part of the second phase of construction, so it's not slated to open until late 2011. I'm also curious as to the origins of this theatre. I know it was originally a twin, but who built it? And why? And did it ever make money?  |  IP: Logged Mike Croaro Master Film Handler Posts: 394 From: Millbrae, CA Registered: Apr 2005 posted 11-24-2009 11:09 PM                     The Oaks Theatre was run for many years by San Carlos Cinemas (now called North American Cinemas) a company operated by Santa Rosa's Dan Toccinni, Sr, Dan Toccinni, Jr., and Kyle Conner. This was the company that previously operated the Rheem and Elmwood Theatres near Berkeley, CA. They currently run the Alameda Theatre in Alameda, CA. The Oaks was converted to a five plex around 1994. It ran a discount program using "membership cards". This was basically a sytem to rip the customers off. It became a first run theatre circa 2000 and closed a year or so later. I thought it had been converted to something else. Eric - Paul of Cinelux Theatres would likely know the history. His family has operated theatres in the area for 30 +/- years. David Nedrow and Jennifer Stancel have put many hours into cleaning up and remodeling this 1920's vintage single screen theatre. These projectors had parts with thin metal which would bend or break. They were always problematic for some reason or another. Posts: 12814 From: Annapolis, MD Registered: Dec 1999 posted 12-05-2009 07:50 PM                     The Allen Theatre in Takoma Park, MD....while it has been closed as a movie theatre since 1990 (opened in 1951) Today it lost its life to a fire: WUSA channel 9 TV (Washington DC) article and video The marquee still stands and can be seen by the accompanying video within the link above.
