BTW, this may not be so far fetched. I remember seeing those big ads in Big Reel claiming they would pay these kind of prices for lots of posters -- King Kong went for like $350,000. Same with The Hunchback of Notre Dame. At a live auction, he would be very lucky to get more than $1000 for it. On eBay, I doubt it would go for more than a few hundred. The poster is just not that rare. Yes, there are posters that go for hundreds of thousands, but those are ALL pre world war 2 vintage of important and popular films, where only 1 or 2 of that given poster may still exist. Very few movie posters survived the WW2 paper drives, which is what makes them so rare. This guy needs a new scale. With an old "heavy duty" pedestal it might be in the 800 pound range, I'd guess closer to 500. And can that Christie be broken down physically and still be operated as separate units? i.e., can the projector head be separated from the rest of pedestal and rectifier unit? When we rent eCinema video projectors we use a large port in our booth that originally was designed for a Super Trouper "Low Boy" model follow spot which sits close to the floor. The port is about a 3ft height opening but it starts only 6in from the floor. The angle at that 5.5 story booth is very steep -- the 35mm Simplexs need a special bracket on the takeup magazines to tip them forward so they don't get crushed against the floor and pedestal. We set the rented video projector on a custom made, steeply angled support table that sits it close to the floor and aims it correctly. That Christie would not be able to work if the head couldn't be operated separetly. It would also need to be compensated for the steep angle and located very close to the floor. The only other viable option would be to keep it as is, a single unit, and roll it in front of one of the Projectiionist's 35mm View Ports. But those ports are higher than the standard projector ports and would require some sort of additional blocking under the entire unit to raise the lens to the additional height. I am assuming that the Christie is designed so that the lens is at the same standard height as the 35mm projector lenses, yes? Not to mention that is a BAD idea as it means the position would not be permenent and the projector would constantly need to be rolled around.
