quote: Dominic Espinosa So...I hate people who treat you like a criminal especially when you bought something.
Yes...I wouldn't shop in any store that treats you that way. I understand why retailers have those systems - without them, it's unbelievable how many people would steal - but they should still treat customers with respect, especially because the demag systems frequently don't work properly.
Sometimes the opposite happens - I purchased an expensive shirt and no alarm rang when I left the store. When I got home, I discovered that the security tag was still on the shirt and I couldn't get it off. Now how do you go back to the store and try to explain what happened? Even with a receipt, they could think you bought one shirt, then came back with the receipt, walked into the store and picked up another. But, as it turned out, they believed me.
I also notice that some stores keep expensive, smaller items behind locked doors, but in chains, what is kept on the open shelves and what is kept locked is different depending on whether the store is urban or suburban.
On the other hand: One time I saw a guy walk out of Tower Records at Lincoln Center in NYC followed by several plainclothes security guards. The guy had an amazing number of DVDs tucked into his clothes. So they're searching the guy and pulling them out and the thief says, "that's all I have," but they keep searching him. The thief then says, seemingly insulted, "That's all I have -- WHY DON'T YOU BELIEVE ME?" That really cracked me up.
