Things that make me angry at work: ----------------------------------------- 1. I'm working on a tough graphics project with a bitch of a deadline and someone keeps walking up behind looking over my shoulder to see how its going.
2. Thunderstorms. Unplug everything. Stop work. Get bored.
3. Sometimes mice invade our factory in the wintertime. We set out rat poison. The little bastards climb into the walls before they die. And then their decomposing bodies stink up the office! Dammit!
4. Zip discs that get corrupt.
5. Telemarketers that lie to people answering the front office phone. They claim to be a personal friend of mine to get through.
6. When people wait until I'm damned near finished with a design project to put in their creative two cents. It makes me want to scream, "I'm not throwing away hours of work and starting all over just to include your brain dead idea you sick, twisted f**k!!!" But I just keep it to myself, simmer and burn an ulcer through my stomach.
7. Customers that request changes which force me to start a design all over again from scratch. And then they want to see TWO versions of the new ideas. AAARRRRGGGGH!
8. Competing sign companies and unethical customers that plagiarize my design work. Cheap-ass scumbags will come to my company first, have us do the survey work, visual problem solving and design development to prepare an accurate, fair bid. And then they'll try to get a cheaper sign company to work from my COPYRIGHTED sketch!
9. Competitors who think they're as good a graphic artist as I because they use the same applications. This is in spite of most having no talent, no formal training, certainly no degree and little (if any) honestly bought and registered software. Hobbyists and amateurs can download off KaZaa to their heart's content. But hacks that underbid me on sign work and freelance work shouldn't be doing it.
10. Idiots at competing sign companies who routinely commit "font murder." They all have thousands of fonts at their fingertips yet use the same weight of Arial for everything.

quote: Bobby, I hear ya, bro! My first wife tried to give me that "I need my freedom" crap.
My first wife left on September 14, 1993.. to "go find herself". Since I never saw her again since then, I'd assume she's out somewhere wandering aimlessly... "still searching".
THINGS THAT MAKE ME ANGRY
Potty Training (my son... not me)
Contractors who can't read a set of plans!!
Interest Payments.
Trucks that get 11 miles a gallon.
Windows 2003 Server operating system
Interviewing High School kids to work in the concession stand at the drive-in who think minimum wage is $8.00 an hour!!
Throwing a block party for all of our new neighbors, and two of the 8 families show up. The others who didn't attend were found in their front yards sitting in lawn chairs!!!
Thunderstorms... lost another computer, modem, and fax/copier/scanner/printer last week. Same thing happened last year. quote: The majority of damage comes through phone and/or network lines.
Yep!!
People who damage your car... say they'll fix it, and 4 months later your still waiting for them to fix it.

Well, Bobby, your comments help me understand these phenomena a bit better. I guess since Huntsville has a lot of different people from a lot of different places, then if people came from another area where making eye contact is taboo, then they'll continue. I'm amazed at how different young people are now than when I was in high school. Most people used to make eye contact and even SPEAK, even if they didn't know you. Even back in the early 1990s (1990-1993 or so), if you were in the mall here and you looked at someone and waved or smiled or nodded at them, there was about an 80 percent chance that they'd wave, smile, or nod back. Now, the probability is more like 20 or 30 percent. People in schools now must be being taught to be more antisocial. I noticed the biggest change in this phenomenon back around 1997.
quote: I'm not sure if I am reading this one correctly. Do you mean people that are looking at you and then when you look at them they quickly turn away like they weren't looking at you at all?
Pretty much. Let's say there's someone I want to wave at or speak to. They see me and I start to make a friendly gesture but the instant they make eye contact, they turn their head a slight bit. They seem to do it as if to say "I reject you and I don't want you to think I saw you," but it could simply be a cultural difference in where they grew up and here.
I'd sure hate to go to a place where everyone acted that way. It's comforting to see people giving friendly gestures in return for friendly gestures.
I was raised to be "naturally friendly" to people. Some have personalities that are so friendly that they "never meet a stranger". I don't go that far, but I do attempt to speak and be friendly to people that seem cool, since I do occasionally do make a friend that way, especially if it is someone I encounter often.

Speaking of lightning...
Another thing that pisses me off is people who are stupid enough to think that the rubber tires on their car is what protects them from lightning strikes if they get inside their car.
Think, people! That lightning bolt just jumped how far? A MILE? Maybe more? It came from all the way up in the sky and stretched all the way down to the ground! (Okay, okay! Lightning bolts really start on the ground and go up. I know. Work with me, here! OK?! )
So, what makes you think that a HALF INCH of rubber is going to stop a lightning bolt?! Umm... and it will probably be WET rubber too! (Don't get me into arguing about whether water conducts electricity, now! That's a whole other rant! Throw me a frickin' bone! Will ya'?! )
When I say, "Your car is like a Faraday Cage.", people give you blank looks and then say something stupid like, "No! It's because your car is GROUNDED!" Hello!! McFly!! <knock-knock> Can you say, "Skin Effect?!" No! It's not something that happens in porno movies, you dolt! Look it up! No! On second thought, DON'T look it up! Your head will probably explode if you do!
BTW: Having said that... What makes you think that a fraction of an inch of silicon (I said, "siliCON!) is going to protect your computer from THOUSANDS and THOUSANDS and THOUSANDS of volts and/or amps of electricity? It just travelled all the way down from the sky, blasted through your roof or some other part of your house and found the nice, conductive wires leading to your computer! I don't give a rats ass HOW fast that varistor (or whatever it's called) reacts to changes in electricity. It's going to blow right on by like a runaway semi-truck through a toll booth! (Yes, I've seen one of those!... Another story!)
To sum it up, people who make stupid assertions and won't listen to a reasonable explanation are what piss me off!
Okay... If, in my ranting, I have misconstrewed a scientific fact point it out to me! I want to know. I'll probably look it up and decide that you are right. (If you are, indeed, right.) Some people actually think that the World Book encyclopedia comes on a (couple of) CD?! Way back when, in the days of Foo-Bye, my parents bought us kids a REAL encyclopedia! I spent hours and hours and hours reading it!
Why do people have to be so bone-head stupid?!

No, Phil, it's not about the lightning bolt. Lightning was just the "seed" to the rant.
There are people who think that things like Star Trek phaser guns could really exist. Umm... Yeah!... Take all the power of a couple-three nuclear power reactors (Say, "Nuke-lee-er"!) then shrink them down to fit in the palm of your hand!
When told that, in order to even APPROACH the speed of light, you would have to take all the power of the sun and burn it up all at once. Then you would only be able to reach, say 90%.
Don't even think about the fact that, upon acceleration that great, your body would become a smooth, red layer of gelatinous goo on the rear bulkhead of the ship.
I have ACTUALLY had people tell me things like, "The government has 'secret laboratories' where they invent things". It was the very same person who told me that on whom I pulled the old "Cut the Kings" card trick on, only I made HIM (think he was) cutting the kings. {Cough, cough!... double lift & false shuffle... Cough} This kid actually though I was psychic or something even after I plainly showed him!
Sometimes I wish I had been born without scruples!
