I have the same LD, I just checked. There is no Dolby Digital 5.1 track on side 4. Side four is CAV and Stereo only.

You must have a different disc. On my copy, the film spreads across 3 sides: side three begins just after Bond blows up the gas tanks inside the bunker. After the films finishes, the documentary starts and reverts to Dolby 2.0. This side is encoded in CLV.

Side 4 is PCM only and CAV.

I have a Dolby AC-3 demonstration laserdisc and it has samples in almost every channel configuration possible.

I have just checked, I stand 100% corrected. This is the first I have ever seen a non 5.1 laserdisc, from everything I have ever read, this is a first.

I'm starting nothing. You do that all on your own Tom and you certainly need no help from me.

You start out pretty much every time with your 'Holier Than Thou' and 'Everything I say is correct and everyone else is wrong attitude which is guaranteed to piss people off. Then, when you're proven wrong you attack me?

John does have a point Tom. You were insisting that all LaserDiscs with Dolby Digital had the 5.1 encode, period. When Aaron challenged that line of thinking, you didn't even bat an eye before basically repeating that all LaserDisc Dolby Digital was 5.1, end of story. It wasn't until Aaron came back again that you decided that maybe it might be a good idea to do some actual research on the issue.

Bottom line: Don't speak with such certainty unless you have done your research and have evidence to back it up. Otherwise you come off like John says you do.

Nope, can't see the bit rate. I'd be curious though if it drops from what the supposed standard 384kbps on LD.

Now that this discussion is essentially over, let's get a little more back on track:

Watched my DVD of Titanic last night, and watched it in DTS. It was excellent, but still didn't seem to have the same oomph I remember in the cinema. Anyone know if the LaserDisc mix (either the AC3 or DTS) was any better. I know the DVD was re-mixed for 6.1 and EX, so obviously it wasn't the same mix.

I have the laserdisc Titanic and I have always thought it sounded better than the dvd. I never heard the DTS track on the DVD but I don't have it anymore.

There are a number of discs on laserdisc that sound amazing, Speed Digital Sound (not DD), Titanic 5.1 and The English Patient which all sound amazing.

All three were THX laserdiscs and all three won sound awards. I think that was something to do with it as well.
