quote: Chad Souder I'm sorry if I made it seem like I was bashing him
Gee, how could we ever get THAT idea?
quote: Chad Souder Why is this sad
quote: Chad Souder It is kind of disappointing that his show won't be on anymore to entertain me
quote: Chad Souder I don't see the shock in a guy being killed by a wild animal
quote: Chad Souder I pay almost $100 per month for my cable so that I can be entertained.
quote: Chad Souder I was trying to bash those that responded to his death with sadness or surprise
quote: Chad Souder Sounds like this behavior isn't rare at all, just that Irwin might not have done his homework.
As far as that last stupid quote...if you read more than FOX NEWS' version, you'd find out that his accident was a freak accident. If the Stingray hit him just about anywhere else, it would have been a wound, not a fatal accident. He was swimming OVER the Stingray, the Stingray possibly felt threatened by Irwin on the top and a cameraman in the vicinity, so the animal lashed out defensively. Irwin wasnt doing ANYTHING to provoke him.
Chad, your complete idiot apparently trying to get some attention.
BTW, you pay too much for cable fool.

Chad, I am sure his pocket book wasn't hurting at all, but I also don't think that anyone should be obligated to give anything back that they rightfully earned. However, Steve decided to do so and I can respect him for that. I'm sure he had to pay his dues as many other millionaires have.
I don't think he was a "media whore." Sure he loved the camera, but he was doing this stuff long before any TV deal came along.
I am sure thousand and thousands of other people died today from whatever cause, but we have never heard of them and didn't know them. Sure, you can say it is silly to feel for someone you don't know, but just look at this site. Most people here don't know each other any better than anyone knows anyone on TV. We are all a bunch of pictures next to some words. That doesn't mean that people don't feel for one another when they lose a family member, pet or whatever other tragedy happens in their lives. I am not going to cry over Irwin's death, but it is sad and I hate to see him get trashed online.

I was thinking about that.
Stingrays hunt by detecting electric fields in the water around them. Every living animal gives off minute amounts of electricity as it moves. The rays can detect that and use it to home in on prey.
The way I heard, they also use it to find a mate and to detect predators and threats.
Now, here's a big 7 foot ray lying on the bottom with it's "geiger counters" clicking away when two large "things" swim over top of it. One's by himself and the other has this big, metal box that's giving off all sorts of confusing electrical signals and making all kinds of weird noises.
If you were that ray, wouldn't YOU lash out, too?
I can just imagine all the stray electric signals in the water from the video camera and other equipment f***ing up that ray's "radar".
If there is any truth to this hypothesis, there's no WONDER Steve got nailed!
But, then again, we don't know a whole lot about rays... Who'da thunk?

Well, according to the lady quoted earlier "If it's spooked by someone stepping on it or swimming too closely over it, frightening it, the tail raises involuntarily," said Victoria Brims, a marine life expert at OceanWorld, an aquarium in Sydney. it appears to be a well known fact among experts that tail action is a reflex reaction of this animal when it feels threatened. I think if you get yourself into a situation like this as a self-proclaimed animal expert, you should probably know things like these. It still is an unfortunate and pretty nasty way to go out. But it's not exactly like fate struck unexpectedly if you put yourself into the situation.
Dangerous animals are called dangerous animals because they are dangerous animals. Even an animal that doesn't normally attack people but carries such obviously lethal countermeasure systems on board as the stingray is a dangerous animal. The few times I watched Mr Irwin mess around with dangerous animals he seemed to endlessly repeat they really are dangerous animals. I guess he was right.
A lot of people die everyday in ways just as and much nastier (though I guess it generally sucks to die, no matter how) completely innocently. Let's not forget these and pretend to be completely heartbroken about someone we just watched on TV a few times. It's just not really honest. Or if you really are heartbroken, OK, but please respect that other people think there are bigger problems in this world. Thank you, good night and good luck.

Nobody is trying to make the ray out like a homicidal maniac. This man died. He loved nature, and made a fortune off of it. He also put a lot back in the idea of preserving it. Some may have laughed at him, others might have found his tactics tasteless. Nobody can deny he loved what he did, and was passionate about preservation.
This man died in a freak accident. He entertained and educated millions of people. Everyone posting on this board recognized him. His life was not lived in vain. I only hope that his children and his wife can cope with that, and I hope they never see boards like this that turned into a "bash his memory" type thing.
The mentality that is being shown here says that you shouldn't feel remorse for a stunt man that dies during a movie shoot. They were only trying to make money off of doing something dumb (whether it's set themselves on fire, jumping off of a bridge, etc.) They all were trying to do something that others would enjoy, and possibly learn from. We see them in our daily lives, and they become an acquaintance, and sometimes a friend. Let those of us that chose to mourn them do so. If you want to make negative remarks about them, take it to another thread, and go F*** yourself. I promise not to post positive things about this mans life in your negative thread, so long as you promise not to post any more negatives about him in this positive thread.
RIP, Steve Irwin, you are missed by many people around the globe. May your widow and children enjoy many years of prosperity and hapiness, and may your efforts never be forgotten.
Michael, I understand what you are saying, but I think the message would go a lot farther if you dropped the he deserved it mentality. I am sad to see people shot to death, run over by cars, starving to death, bombed to death, et. al. But I don't know many of them at all. This man was on my TV on more than a few occassions. He entertained, and even educated me, on many points. I naturally feel a connection to him that I don't to a John Doe that I have never heard of prior to his shooting in a Gila Bend Texaco. Can't you understand that? To call him out for not being educated enough to know the dangers of the Ray, makes it look like you only wish to piss on his memory. Again, I understand your point, but I don't believe this thread is the proper place for making it...

quote: Frank Dubrois if you read more than FOX NEWS' version
I think the most obvious problem with this statement is that Fox News is a "cable" news channel... on TV... not a newspaper or a magazine. I suppose you can read the crawler at the bottom of the screen, or even go to the internet and read some stories on foxnews.com, but you "watch" Fox News, not read it.
The second thing that is just obvious is that "fox news" is used as some sort of device for hate because there are some that feel that fox news is not accurate, due to the way that some say they report political news. Feel what you want on that, but Irwin's death was not political, it was just news. Fox reported the news the same way that every other news channel in the world reported it. They just read the wire reports and expressed sympathy for his family. Irwin was Australian, not republican. Geez.
There is so much more to say regarding the comments of Chad Souter and his wonderful sense of self entertainment and love for his fellow man, but it would take up most of the bandwidth of this forum to do so.
Instead of working Chad over for another one of his dissassociative moments, I will instead handle this the best way I know how...
Ciao Mr. Irwin, you were loved, and you will be missed. My family gives a big "criekey" to you and yours. It didn't matter if I knew you personally or not, all I have to know is that people did know you personally, and in person, and they are sad at your passing. I hope that all can take from this that you lived a wonderful life, and didn't worry about the risks of living, or loving. How wonderful it is to live in such a way, without fear or hate. If all of us were like our crocky hunter freind, there would be fewer wars, and more love for our fellow man.
Goodbye to a great freind of our world, and its people.
Ciao again Mr. Irwin, Ciao.
