Regarding the intestinal cramping (which I sometimes suffer from myself) I find that peppermint oil (in the form of a tablet called Mintec - available from chemists) works wonders. It really relaxes the bowel. Check with your doctor first before trying it though. I echo the sentiments of all on the forum. We all wish you the best in these trials and the important thing to remember is that we care about you and want to see you get through this ok. cheers Peter  |  IP: Logged John Pytlak Film God Posts: 9987 From: Rochester, NY 14650-1922 Registered: Jan 2000 posted 04-18-2007 10:27 AM                        I've just survived another two-week round of chemotherapy to slow the tumor growth along my small intestine that are sometimes causing blockage. Chemo is definitely not fun, with extreme fatigue and nausea. But as they say, "no pain, no gain". A girl who worked at my theatre until mid-2004 lost her husband to cancer a couple of weeks ago. They got married in 2006, and found out about the cancer within 2 months. They were only married about 11 months before he died at age 23. Anyway, I'm really glad to hear you're doing well, John. I had major surgery last November 14 (10-inch long incision) that found the tumors had spread thoughout my abdomen and small intestine, and could not be removed surgically. Radiation therapy would "cook" my intestines. So chemo is the only hope of slowing it down. It really does a number on your red blood cells and makes you anemic. Several days after my wife would have a session, she would be so weak that she could baely get off the couch. But, as you know, it gets better as your red cell count recovers. You are a great guy! I remeber calling you at Kodak when I was a 16 year old wanna be projectionist, You were kind enough to send me a stack of great "Film Notes For Reel People" magazines. Those were read many times and helped to foster my interest and love in motion picture projection. My Grandmother recently battled with throat cancer. She was able to have radiation and it was succesful. Unfortunately she had other problems including mal nourishment. She only weighed 65 pounds! We tried for years to get her to eat and unfortunately her doctor didnt do much about it. They finnally decided to put in a feeding tube for her but she died from complications to this surgery in March. She was 79. Point being she wasnt in very health and she was able to beat the cancer, I am confident that if she could do it then someone in better health should! Just make sure you eat even if you have to froce yourself. It's a shame that a lot of men and woman have the idea in thier heads that they have to be skinny. I think my Grandmother had an eating disorder for a long time, unfortunately eating disorders have only recently been talked about, and brought to light.  |  IP: Logged
