I guess this story was backed up by the $3.789 gas I saw at two different Maverick Stations this morning. Of course my tank was already full... Mark  |  IP: Logged Monte L Fullmer Film God Posts: 8367 From: Nampa, Idaho, USA Registered: Nov 2004 posted 06-18-2008 02:16 AM                     The wife and I are on a two week vacation to Kansas, and while traveling across the midwest to this state, it's amazing how prices in Wyo and Neb are much lower than we poor folks in Idaho. I left my residence, filling up at Albertsons (with their preferred card to save 3 pennies per gallon) at $4.009 - managed to bypass filling up in Utah (which their prices on what Mark mentions) until I hit Wyo and did a series of fill at $3.749 up to $3.879 across the state. Nebraska is also in this price range. The one thing that really stuck out was the vehicles themselves on the road this time of year: Usually, you'd see a rather even mix of cars and 18 wheelers. Now, it had drastically changed to one car to 5 of those big rigs. And the real sad thing is the price for their fuel being much higher than we travellers in our cars and other gasoline vehicles. Sold the Harley a couple months ago and added the $$ to the retirement account. Have barely ridden it in the last two years... I think a total of just 87 miles. It never gave particuluarly good milage anyway... Too many mods done to soup it up over the years. I thought I'd miss it but haven't so far. Some reports of Diesel now at £1.39 in some local Garages. Petrol is still around £1.17-18 in most places, though in motorway and dual carriageway service stations it has now busted £1.20. I've discovered that by slipstreaming a lorry and driving the motorway bit of the commute at 60mph rather than 70 I'm achieving about a 10% fuel burn saving on each sector, so to speak. The price was $3.82 yesterday. I guess the sticker shock of 4.00 is keeping it at bay...for now. And these are about the lowest prices for fuel in the country. Meanwhile, the price of oil is reaching new record highs. Overnight, oil hit $142 per barrel in Asia trading before pulling back to $141. Outside of seeing a few more 4-wheelers around town, there doesn't seem to be any less traffic than usual. The average is 3.92 with many hitting the $4 mark. Also I'm seeing fewer crazies on the road. At two Arco stations not far from my home, regular went from $4.439-4.479 a gallon down to $4.399/gallon. Wow, up to eight whole cents a gallon. Not exactly something to get my hopes up over, especially with no sustained decrease in the price of oil in sight...  |  IP: Logged
