Yea, don't you just love it when you have to "mop up" other people's doings to make it better? Oh the insanity!

And of course, put 4 used prints together last night and all of them had the tail leaders whacked off on the last reel ...... and they all had the proper end cues for automation shutdown...

...just an insane, go-figure thing...!

Regarding 2001, it came out when I was in High School. I thought the best way to experience it was to see the movie, then read the novel, then see the movie again. There are some things in the novel that explain parts of the movie.

I agree that the "slit scan" section is too long, but not as long as that awful V'Ger sequence in the first STAR TREK film!!

Me too! Of course now I've been out of work for the last three months. But I'm still glad I walked away from that very bad situation.

I saw 2001 many times, ran it many times as well and I NEVER read the book and I probably never will. I never thought it SHOULD be explained beyond the language of the film. Whatever you make of it should come ONLY from the film. A novel and a movie are two very different art forms. And why CAN'T some of the film remain ambiguous rather than literal? That aspect never bothered me. As for shortening it, if anything needed to be shortened, it MIGHT have been the space walk to repair the module. But there is so much that’s right….I would even say that's brilliant about this film that who am I to tell the director, hey, you should shorten this scene 'cause I would like it better. Maybe he WANTS to make me feel the ponderous boredom of life in space. Oh, and to keep this On Thread.... I HATE when people say about any movie, “oh, I read the book and the movie isn't as good." (which I know you did not say, Joe).

Actually that ending just comes full circle -- the monolith -- what ever you personally come to think it means, is there at the first evolution of the species from ape to man and there it is there again at the end, presumably when man is evolving into the next, more advanced species.

I only saw it stoned once – my one Cinerama time and I am quite sure that being stoned made it the LEAST satisfying of all.

But this is off topic soooo.....I HATE sentences like this:

I remembered another one.

I hate it when you are stuck behind some "Ass Clown" that is driving some huge beefed up truck or SUV and is driving it like they are a little old lady that is afraid of every little bump or crack in the road.

Why drive a big off road type of vehicle if you are scared to even drive it on the roads.

Probably because they are slightly intoxicated, as is the most popular norm here in Houston. The other option is 90% of what is in their truck and the bodywork is illegal. That or it's just a female driver on her cell phone talking or texting.

I have seen as many Male Macho Jerks doing exactly what you say above. It is not a gender thing. It is more of a moron thing!

Yes, yes...those of us that actually know it all really hate those that "think" they know it all!

I think everyone has their driver frustrations...here are mine:

When one is in the left lane at a light but doesn't put on their turn signal until after the light turns green!

Those that don't understand the "Yield" sign and that if you are merging ONTO the road/highway, more often than not YOU have the yield sign which means...YOU have to yield to the traffic on the road...including those that are pulling off into the "off-ramp" I'm amazed by those that feel entitled to just close their eyes and pull into traffic and expect others to magically move out of their way.

In general though, what drives me "insane" is mediocrity. How people do just enough to get by when they have the ability/time...etc to do a much better job. What is worse is when those that try to justify their mediocrity.

Good one Steve but I'll add to that. People that DO know it all but are not in the least bit humble about it.

Drivers... you guys should come to You-Tah and experience the brain deads behind the wheel here. If you thought Florida or southern AZ are bad... [Eek!]
