That triple feature event took place simultaneously in eight cities, including Los Angeles. The promotional material was customized for each theater. STAR WARS TRIPLE FEATURE, March 28, 1985 Chicago - [Plitt] Carnegie Dallas - [GCC] Northpark I & II Denver - [Commonwealth] Continental Los Angeles - [GCC] Avco Center Los Angeles - [UA] Egyptian I-II-III New York - [RKO Century] Warner Twin San Francisco - [UA] Coronet Seattle - [UA] Cinema 150 Toronto - [Famous Players] Uptown If you want to get really technical, the 1985 event was not the first time the triple feature had been screened publicly. In 1984, it was screened at the Cinesphere in Toronto as part of a two-day charity event. I first ran the Star Wars Triple Feature (in 35mm) at the Mackay City Cinema over a year earlier on Sunday February 12th, 1984. I ran it there again Sunday April 8th, 1984. Then it moved to the drive-ins and screened at the Grove Drive-In Friday May 18th, 1984 and one last time at the Westline Drive-In on Thursday June 28th, 1984. That's interesting, John, as those screenings all predate even the convention screening I mentioned a few posts ago. (It was September 2, 1984; World Science Fiction Convention, Los Angeles.) Let me check the old SW Fan Club newsletters (which is where I first heard about the US/Canada triple feature screening) and the Star Wars Year By Year Chronicle book and see what they have to say about all of this.  |  IP: Logged John Wilson Film God Posts: 5438 From: Sydney, Australia. As a result I managed to get the manager to agree to nothing but the movies on screen. No trailers. No film ads.
