The 70mm fans will be probably be disappointed to learn that no 70mm prints have been planned - yet. The premiere in Canada will be a state-of-the-art high-end 4K digital presentation, with full uncompressed 6-track digital sound. EVERYTHING these days is "state of the art". That is the most overused and stupid phrase that exists. Best equipment is difficult to quantify because of so many opinions. I'll give you an example, I detest Simplex soundheads, but others think they are god's gift to film. (Others are wrong, as the "dirt embedder roller" causes film wear. Just because it takes a number of passes to see the damage doesn't mean it isn't happening.) Well-trained projectionists doesn't mean anything. For every "good" projectionist there are thousands that suck. Just because you saw a good show doesn't mean that projectionist really knew what he/she was doing. In fact they could have been damaging the print. Fortunately there IS a way to determine who is a good projectionist. The test of a good projectionist is if a he/she can run the same print hundreds of times without ANY perceptible wear or dirt buildup. Go to a few cinemas in the GTA. And they have cut a lot of corners. Cineplex Odeon is nortorious for "NEW" building theatres that cut the corners. Screens way too big for the theatres, seats that do not point to the centre of the screen, lobby noise that enters the theatre etc etc. The Tiff #1 is not a true stadium seating theatre, its screen is not oversized, the theatre actually has a balcony, and the presentation is second to none in Toronto.  |  IP: Logged Brad Miller Administrator Posts: 17775 From: Plano, TX (36.2 miles NW of Rockwall) Registered: May 99 posted 08-27-2011 04:24 PM                     Another ridiculous comment! I don't take any offence to what you are saying. The Tiff #1 is by far the best screening cinema in the entire Greater Toronto Area. No other theatre comes close. If they are Cineplex, they are ALL identical. Theatres in Canada are not like the ones in the USA. Just a thought of how crap theatres in Toronto area are. We have not one single THX Certified theatre in the GTA, the surrounding area, lower golden horseshoe, and actually the province of Ontario. The Empire 10 in Mississauga is a mistake and is not a THX theatre anymore.
