Thanks Leo for the list. I believe that the Carmike Sundance Kabuki in San Francisco CA will be showing the 70mm roadshow in theatre cinema #4 also. I plan on seeing It at the Century 9 in SF, It has a semi curved screen and is larger. The New Mission Drafthouse Theatre in SF re open's this Thursday Dec 17 with 'Star Wars'at 7PM. They have 70mm projectors in the large downstairs cinema and will run H8 at a latter date on 70mm film. They even have brand new curtains that work.

On reels, yes...doubled up reels no. I have no problem shipping them out that way but don't approve running them that way. Care to lift 5-reels of 35mm over your head to aim for a 1/2" spindle 5 times a show? For what? To save a few changeovers? If you can make 4 good ones you can make 9 good ones. And, in the unlikely event of a mishap, you've only endangered 1 reel, not 2.

Confirming that there definitely will be 4k 'Roadshow'
DCP's issued as backup in case of catastrophic film failure.

I'm running this one tomorrow at a special press/preview screening.

Quentin, we don't tell you how to make your movies; why don't you keep away from the exhibition side of it? I'm sure if he hadn't "insisted" on a Christmas release, cooler heads at the studio would have prevailed and the wide release would have been moved to January.

Would have worked out way better, because not only could they have gotten the screens, they could have cut a trailer for placement on the Star Wars movie and gotten millions of impressions. It would have been a win-win.

New Mission Drafthouse currently has 35mm only projectors as well as the Sony digital. The could not find a suitable pair of 70/35 machines in time for the opening. They are currently in a soft opening. Grand opening 12/18 but I suspect they have preview shows of Star Wars. 70mm maybe added in the future.

Yeppers, Quentin and co screwed the pooch on this one royally!

It's funny because Quentin is such a film buff, but doesn't understand any of the technical components. I mean I'm a film buff and I take pride in understanding the technical aspects including distribution. You've gotta when you make these kinds of films. I just think the money has gone to his head!

Grand Lake is getting masking installed as we speak. Our 7 day run of Star Wars 2D in that house will have a smaller than normal image to fit the added masking.

TWC has stated no trailers or preshow for the 70mm run. I would not have anyways. Don't run trailers before a feature with an overture. We do not run ads or commercials anyway.

We had originally planned to have just a $1.50 70mm upcharge but it was not enough for TWC and are forced to make it $4.00. General tickets will be $15.00 for the 70mm.

I am shocked, elated, and excited that the Kansas City market is getting not one, but TWO 70mm prints. We'll see how they handle it! My first 70mm viewing!!!

The weird thing is that unlike most other Hollywood A-listers, he actually owns and operates a theater, and so Tarantino, of all people, should know how to work the distribution system to give his show the best possible release.

But there again, it's a theater in the heart of Hollywood that shows almost exclusively cult/grindhouse type stuff, and so the normal economics of the biz don't really apply to him. Plus, he has the option of subsidizing the New Bev with other income if he needs to.

Yes the timing against Star Wars is dumb but the only thing QT spoke about on Howard Stern was one theater! One booking! The Cinerama Dome! He was not talking about any other screen being dominated by Star Wars.
He's fine with Star Wars taking everything else but they had a deal with the Dome and the Dome wanted to honor it. They are Ultra Panavision perfect for a Ultra Panavision revival.
They(Disney)threatened the Dome saying "you will not honor The Hateful Eight booking if you want Star Wars at all your other Pacific theaters!"
That is a big pile of [bs]

and Disney is simply trying to [sex]

QT by deliberately going after the one screen QT really cared about.
I respect most of you here but...the anti QT jabs are starting to get under my skin. Endless Hating on his films like a bunch of jaded art house snobs. I can say that because I work at a art house surrounded by QT Hating, jaded art house snobs.
He may be naive but QT is passionate about movies and film.He puts everything into it. The WTC yes men are likely the ones who should have insisted on different release dates instead of blowing sunshine up Quentin's ass.
Quentin puts his money and energy into programming the New Bev all the while writing and making movies the world(most of)loves.
I believe the suits around him at WTC failed him and 70mm by encouraging a Christmas release.

^ 'Django Unchained' opened on Christmas day in 2012 - it had no problem, but of course it didn't have to deal with a Star Wars movie release.

Django Unchained wasn't being released in an exotic film presentation format. So it didn't really depend on getting booked into certain kinds of venues. The Hateful Eight, being filmed in anamorphic 5/65mm, needed every big venue it could have booked.

Had QT waited a couple or so months he could have had just about any venue he wanted. Hell, he probably could have even set up a deal with IMAX and temporarily put 5/70mm into a bunch of those theaters. But no, they had to go up against Star Wars. This is just an example of someone not picking his battles wisely.

Thanks for that list!!

I’m curious about that 70MM list and which of those theaters can properly (like the Cinerama Dome) project an Ultra-Panavision 2.76:1 aspect ratio and not mask it down. I'm also curious as to how many will be showing it on unmasked screens? I emailed Arclight Hollywood and asked if they would consider moving Hateful Eight into the Dome once Star Wars makes its mandatory big screen run. I noticed Arclight Hollywood 70MM showings are already sold pretty well. I’m quite surprised and a little concerned that my local cinema Del Amo 18 in Torrance CA, is showing a 70MM print. I hope they can handle it.

Are most directors and studios so out of touch that they don’t realize most large format screens have no masking? I just wish they would shoot more 1.85 movies, that way the image will be larger on those screens and at home on Blu-Ray.
