Author Topic: HATEFUL EIGHT 70mm - all discussion Buck Wilson Jedi Master Film Handler Posts: 894 From: St. Joseph MO, USA Registered: Sep 2010 posted 01-08-2016 06:54 AM                     Watched it again last night(last show for the 70mm) at the Leawood KS AMC 20. Print looked as good as it did on Christmas Eve. Same projectionist. I sat closer to the screen. Still a very full house. Annoying- listening to all the hipsters talk about 70mm when they have no fucking clue what they're talking about. But I guess they bought tickets sooooooo support is support. Speaking of which, it either sold out or very nearly sold out for every single show I happened to check online for the entire engagement. Compare that to them moving it across the lobby for today, in Dolby Cinema/Prime, there are only 3 tickets sold each for the 7 and 10 shows. On a Friday. Versus nearly sold out on a Thursday 10 show 2 weeks into its run. Century/Christie combo #34 Movie was just as good the 2nd time around, just felt a little longer. But I had just watched another movie before it so theres that. Auditorium 5. Picture was soft. Focus was decent. Auditorium was common height. So at least the pic was big even if the auditorium wasn't that large. Being the last day in 70MM, the 7:25 show was packed. Funny thing is the 6:30 digital show was in one of their biggest auditoriums and it was empty. Why they would put the digital version in that screen was a weird choice. I will be honest. The pic quality between the 70MM and the digital version(I peeked in for the last chapter when Sam Jackson and the shierrif character are on the bed in pain) wasn't significant enough for me to notice. There was some flickering in the 70MM version. The theater I'm at has extended its' 70mm run. From what they tell me, all shows through the weekend are already sold out. There was initially an issue about would pay me for the extended run, but obviously, they worked all that that out.  |  IP: Logged Terry Monohan Master Film Handler Posts: 379 From: San Francisco CA USA Registered: May 2014 posted 01-08-2016 07:59 PM                     Most of the theatres in the SF Bay Area have stopped showing the roadshow 70mm version of H8 as of today Friday Jan 8. A few like Oakland's Grand Lake Theatre and in SF the Carmike Sundance Kabuki have held the 70mm print over for a time. In future months you will find these 70mm prints coming back for the 70mm projectors going into the New Mission and the Castro Theatre will book It on there own 70mm projectors for a few showings. I think after 2 weeks of playing the 70mm roadshow around the USA under the 2 week contract most theatres did not want to pay the extra fees for projection people. Most of these roadshow cinemas I think did a good business with the 70mm print If they advertised It well. What will happen to all the 70mm projectors brought in? Will the theatres get to keep them or rent them for a other 70mm films being made now? Will the 100 theatres in the USA have to send the projectors back and then re install again when a 70mm film plays? Let's hope some of the used 70mm prints now going back still look good for the many second run 70mm projectors still wanting to play this film in the future either reel to reel or on a platter. Will there be a old drive In theatre that will run the used 70mm print on a giant outdoor screen? Have everybody working at the ticket booth and refreshment counter have cowboy outfits on! Spray the boxoffice ticket building with fake blood! Revenant is expected to do $38.3 million, while Hateful Eight is fading fast, down to $6.2 million for the weekend, or $41.3 million cume since opening limited on December 25. This is Revenant's first weekend wide, while Hateful Eight has been wide since December 30. The print was still in pristine condition, there was pin-sharp focus on the entire image, it was properly masked on all sides and the sound was terrific. I'm slightly surprised they're holding on to it for a further week as there was no more than a dozen people in the auditorium, but maybe the evening crowds are holding up.  |  IP: Logged Ben Wales Jedi Master Film Handler Posts: 602 From: Southampton. England Registered: Jul 99 posted 01-10-2016 04:13 PM                     The "Hateful 8" open on Friday 8th January at the Odeon Cinema in Leicester Square in London, this is the largest Cinema in the West End. Most of the evening shows on Friday/Saturday/Sunday have been sold out and even on the early Sunday screening over 800 turned up. The 70mm Presentation was stunning after the usual Adverts/Trailers were screened in DCP, the Screen Curtains close and then opened up on the BBFC and Entertainment Ident (Digital) and then into the Intro Play in 70mm. The Print was in perfect Focus,Clean and no marks. The screen is 15m wide for the Ultra Panavision and masked correctly. The Cinema has a Cinemaccancia Victora 8 35/70mm Projector fitted with two 70mm DTS Readers and two DTS/Datasat XD10 where one serves as back up, also a 4k DCP "Roadshow" is also on standby and currently they have two Projectionist manning the Projector (70mm Screenings)for the first week or so.  |  IP: Logged Philip Jones Film Handler Posts: 90 From: England Registered: Dec 2011 posted 01-11-2016 12:03 PM                     How far in is the intermission?  |  IP: Logged Paul Mayer Oh get out of it Melvin, before it pulls you under!
