Saturday night of Nat'l Treasure, we were sold out (well about 10 seats left in the building.)
This family of 6 comes in, 20 minutes late and I say, "We are basically full but we probably have enough single seats for all of you, if you don't mind not sitting together."
After about 5 minutes of the parents trying to convince the kids to come back another time, of course the folks give in and buy the tickets.
Then they proceed to stand in the back of the auditorium peering over the crowd, looking for seats. I walked around and located enough seats for them, then went back and said, "Well you can sit here, and she can sit there, and there's two down in front for two of the kids, etc etc."
Whereupon the kids start whining about not wanting to sit by themselves, and who gets to sit with who, etc, finally I told them they'd have to either take their seats or go out to the lobby and talk, because the movie had started. So the dad gets PISSED AT ME and says "Well we'll just leave if that's the way it's going to be."
So they left. The good part: The whole crew just trooped out with a couple of the kids crying and Dad bringing up the rear, and I was ready and willing to give them a refund but they just walked by the boxoffice and out the door with their noses in the air. Sorry about that, dude, and good riddance.

We actually have this setup as well, only 25 cent increments and not keeping change on hand other than quarters. For one thing it just makes counting out a lot faster. Now if we do get someone paying with 3 dimes or what-not we do offer to push back one of the dimes but a lot of the times the customer just offers it up to the concession as a tip. The concessionists will then try and give back the dimes, nickels, pennies, silver dollars, half dollars, etc. back as change to other customers so that we don't have to put any change in the deposit in the end of the night. Some of you may ask what we do when our concession deposit is a 25, 50, or 75 cent ending, we just put that odd amount into the change drawer for the next day. We don't get many people paying with any change anyways, and when we do they usually have correct, like my "sock lady" who comes in every week and pays everything with a sock full of quarters. Hope the sock gets washed now and then
