Computers have been developed which can translate any language into another. Ideally, if the translated passage were then translated by computer back into the first language, the original words ought to be regained. This, however, does not allow for the ambiguity of languages.

Thus, there is the story of the computer that was ordered to translate a common English phrase into Russian and then translate the Russian translation back into English.

What went in was "Out of sight, out of mind."

What came out was "Invisible insanity." [Big Grin]

Cleaning Poem


I asked the Lord to tell me Why my house is such a mess? He asked if I'd been 'puting, And I had to answer "yes"

He told me to get off my butt And tidy up the house And so I started cleaning up... The smudges off my mouse.

I wiped and shined the topside That really did the trick... I was just admiring my work... I didn't mean to 'click'

But click, I did, and LOL I found A real absorbing site That I got SO way into... I was into it all night

Nothing's changed except my mouse It's very, very shiny I guess my house will stay a mess... While I sit here on my hiney

12 Steps for Computer Addicts


1..We admitted we were penniless over our addiction and our lives had become unmanageable.

2..We came to believe that a CPU greater then ours could restore us to sanity.

3..We made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of our computer as we understood it.

4..We made a searching and fearless backup of our hard-drive(s).

5..We admitted to God, ourselves, and another BBS the exact nature of our wrongs.

6..We were entirely ready to have God remove all those viruses.

7..We humbly asked him to do away with bugs.

8..We made a spreadsheet of all the persons we had harmed.

9..We made direct amends, via modem to such people wherever possible except when to do so would injure or fry our modems.

10..We continued to make vigilant backups.

11..We sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with our CPU praying only for a power supply to carry it all out.

12..Having had a good laugh out of this damn thing we decided to make a hard copy of the above steps and post it on our walls. [Big Grin]

Useless fact - Why is eating puffer fish so dangerous?


We visited the links in the Puffer Fish category to answer this one. There are over 120 different species of puffer fish, best known for its ability to turn itself into a big, spiny ball when threatened. If cleaned and properly prepared, puffer fish, or blowfish as it is also know, can be safely eaten and is even considered a delicacy in Japan.

However, beware before ordering a plate of puffer. The liver, gonads, intestines, and skin of some species contain a neurotoxin called tetrodotoxin, a poison also found in the California newt and the eastern salamander and that can cause death if ingested.

In Japan, where a meal of puffer, or fugu, can run you a pretty penny, chefs are required to undergo an exam and acquire a special license to prepare the dish. During the exam, which has only a 25% pass rate, the chef must prepare and then eat a meal of puffer fish. Despite these precautions, some 100-200 people suffer from tetrodotoxin poisoning every year. Approximately half of these cases result in death.

Only small portions of contaminate fish need to be consumed for poisoning to occur, and the effects are felt within minutes. Symptoms usually include tingling of the mouth, vomiting, dizziness, and eventually, paralysis and death. There is no known antidote so treatment usually includes pumping the stomach.

However, tetrodotoxin might not be all bad. Recent research has suggested that it may ease pain in cancer patients and help wean heroin addicts. [Big Grin]

You know you are a tehcnical geek when . . .

When your friend tells you all about his Cressida V6 and you reply "Yeah, I had V5, and it was full of bugs!"

When driving you see a license plate with the letters DSR, and you feel compelled to touch your bumper to the other car to see if you can raise CD.

When you are counting objects "0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,A,B,C,D...".

When you lay down in the afternoon for a short rest, end up sleeping 4 hours, and call it a "mega-nap".

When your wife goes to the market for some macintosh apples, and you correct her, "No, dear, it's 'Apple Macintosh'."

When your wife says "If you don't turn off that stupid machine and come to bed, then I am going to divorce you!", and you chastise her for for omitting the else clause. [Big Grin]

Why are there so many, users of Windows?
Don't people have any pride?

Last week my wife and I purchased a new computer. We ran into some difficulties while setting it up so we decided to call the customer support phone number we found in the manual. I picked up the phone and called the number. A man answered the phone and I explained the problem to him. He began rattling off computer jargon. This confused us even more!

"Sir," I said politely, "Can you explain what I should do as if I were a small child?"

"Okay," the computer support guy said. . . .

"Son, could you please put your mommy on the phone?" [Big Grin]

New Millennium Conversations (Computer World)


1. Parents chatting to son " Dear Andy. How have you been? Your mother and I are fine. We miss you. Please sign off from your computer and come downstairs for something to eat. love. your Dad."

2.A man talking to a new friend. "My name was David. But that sounded old fashioned. So I shortened it to DVD."

3.A son getting a phone call. " Hollo bob. This is your father again. I have another question about my new computer. Can i tape a movie from cable TV then fax it from my VCR to my CD-Rom then email it to my brother's cellular phone so he can make a copy on his neighbour's camcorder?"

4. A woman asking the sales girl "I want my husband to pay more attention to me. Got any perfume that smells like a couputer?"

5. While removing his dress including soaks for a routine check up at the clinic, the old man tells the doctor "sorry about the odor. I have all my passwords tattooed between by toes."

6. Husband tells wife after getting some strange messages from his computer "The computer says I need to apgrade my brain to be compatiable with its new software."

7.Husband, in front of computer, turns back to wife (she is struggling with their 2 small kids) and says " You said I should spend more time with our children, so I turned their faces into icons."

8.One 10 year old teenager talking to another of about the same age "I asked my dad where the children come from, he said people download them from internet."

9.The doctor telling the pregnant woman while turning the monitor and showing the image of the baby inside the utarus, "see your baby is developing very nicely. Would you like to send him a email?"

10.Technology Advances, but people stays the same. Banners in toilet reads "For a good time, pls email sue@abc.com".

11.Couple on bed, but both are completely engaged in browsing internet using laptops. At some point, the husband winks to wife and the wife's reply was "Not tonight darling, Didn't you get my email?"

12.Even dogs do it. Three dogs in front of a computer, chatting to some dog girl. Friends advices to the one who is typing "Tell her, you are a guard dog, Yeah, A Rottweiler, and that you are single, and neutered......." [Big Grin]

Why is a modem better than a woman?

A modem doesn't mind if you talk to other modems. A modem doesn't complain if you sit and play at the computer all night. A modem will sit patiently and wait by the phone. A modem comes with an instruction manual. [Big Grin]

"CYBERSPACE OBITUARY"


Tri Logon (May he rest in pieces.).

Tri Logon (aka IRC big_mouth, aka ICQ smart_mouth) passed away on 7/2/05 while downloading and installing the Windows upgrade. Super VGA viewing will begin at 11:00am on 7/6/05.

He is survived by his wife, Boot (Cold) Logon (aka IRCboot_boogie). Tri resided at http://www.crash_dummies.com/trilogn/html for 5 years. He was employed as a computer tech by Nutskip Co., as a trouble/shooter/maker and received his computer degree at; Microsoft for Dummies. He was noted for his ability to recover his crashed hard drive 29 different times. He contributed a vast number of internet prank files and expressed numerous LOLOLOLOL during his service to the Internet.

He is survived by his son, Kant Logon (aka IRC kant_help_it), a daughter, Missia Logon (ICHAT missia_u), some nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dent (aka ICHAT dent_doit) and Yesser (akaICHAT yesser_yadid) Logon.

Services will be at "http://www.waytogo.com at 12:00 pm on 7 /6 /05. All ICQ friends are to log on at 12:15 pm and sing "Ut Oh" in unison. Tri will be remembered by chatters with a moment of silence in all chat rooms at 12:30 pm.

It has been asked that flowers be omitted and donations be made to replace the family hard drive. All cards and donations can be sent to trilogin@crash_dummies.com. To use your charge card for making a donation, please place your card in the floppy drive at the prompt.

Good bye Tri.......we know your up there in Heaven taking care of the good Lord's computers now.............OH NO !
