3rd time lucky I guess  Well I started like all you guys and Gals spending all my time at the Flicks looking to the back of the cinema to see if I could see how the Projectionist did things,where I grew up in Auckland was my all time favourite movie house ,the "Cinerama" where I would sit in the centre of the screen curve and be surrounded by image,from there I collected 16mm projectors and had my owm screenings in my parents garage and when older tried to get into an apprenticeship in Projection ,but is was a bit of a closed shop,so much later in life I started working in cinemas for nothing helping the projectionist and getting trained at the same time ,I spent most of the time in change over set-ups ,my favourite in the Giant "Civic" Theatre 3,000 seat (newly Restored)atmospheric which had 35/70 Philips and big real change overs and various other cinemas until I was able to take over a Local 500 seat "Westside" cinema which my wife and I ran (and our children grew up in)until the arrival of the Westfeild supermarket 8 screen, so I know the smell of Carbons quite well, when we closed the "Westside" I rescued all of the Plant from the place and this will be going into a NEW Community Centre in our Area.

Name is Scott, Steve Scott. The man with two first names (three if you count my middle name). I'm 18 & I work at the Lakeville 18 Theater out on the interstate in Lakeville, MN. I've been there on the floor since I was 15, but I mostly work in the booth now. I started as nothing but a pee-on in a vest, but now I work part time as a Floor Supervisor & the rest of the time as a projectionist. I started at this theater the day before Episode One came out (good day to be trained for a rush when we got all of ten people in all day!), and since then, I've seen a lot of people and employees go through the halls of this place. Eventually, I had to get off of the floor. Our company policy set the projection age at 18, but I had guys upstairs showing me the ropes when I was 16. By then, I was turning heads amongst upper management with the fact that I knew the difference between flat & scope masking! Now I'm still showing our management how to keep a print from getting scratched, something that is foreign to pretty much everybody in our booth except me.
Bottom line, three years later, I'm still underpaid, but I don't have to deal with as many customers. Not that I cared to do so before, because I'm in it for the movies. Always have & I always will!

Hi! I'm Wes. I have been lurking here for a long while, and finally got around to registering....I figured this would be fitting for a first post. I am 24, and the general manager and technical director for a small theatre chain in Raleigh, North Carolina. My theatre is an old UA twin that was expanded to a 5-plex. I ran my first film when I was about 6 years old on Simplex XL's with Peerless Magnarc carbon arcs and 20 minute changeovers. An old union projectionist trained me and taught me everything I needed to know (at the time) about being an excellent projectionist, sound man, electrician, etc. I left the business for a while in my teenage years, but quickly picked it back up when I went off to college. Thats about it! I hope I can make a positive contribution to this site.

I am Kelsey Black.
I got my start in this industry when my family started running the local 2-screener in my hometown of Willcox, AZ. Being the only one technical-minded in the family enough to enjoy it, I was the booth guy, projectionist and techncian a.k.a. the guy who keeps the show on time when something craps out just before showtime. sole operator of that booth for 2 1/2 years, when I could finally con someone into threading up and starting movies for me occasionally.
I also have experience in audio production, radio engineering, and other assorted interests not limited to computers, electronics, hgh voltage, lasers, pyrotechnics, high-power model rocketry, money, girls, etc.
I currently work at GTS as the Rental Manager.There's more to be said, but I'd rather not be an open book. Kelsey @ GTS

Hey All,I'm from Auckland, New Zealand , i don't post much so i thought i'd stick something here I'm a SAE Graduate, working at a Video store  , i need a real job I collect Super 8 gear and have a 12ft screen in the backyard, I'm looking for 16mm and 35mm gear but have had no luck here in auckland, must be looking in the wrong place I hope to be a Cinematographer/Director , and have my own Cinema and have the crappy Village Cinemas close down!! (thats my dream) I'm into 3D gfx and create my own versions of Dolby trailers.
