Author Topic: Gas Prices in your area Mike Heenan Phenomenal Film Handler Posts: 1896 From: Scottsdale, AZ, USA Registered: Mar 2000 posted 08-03-2005 03:23 PM                     Gas is around $2.41 on the low end here, I filled up at a plce for $2.45 a gallon, cost me $39 for my Ford Escort It's sad considering that's what filling a Suburban cost a few years ago probably. Nevada and California both offer tax breaks, and California also allows hybrids to drive in HOV lanes with less than the required number of occupants. So some places are trying to help reduce the cost of jumping into a hybrid. Hybrids are a great first step towards weaning us off of gasoline. Next will come fuel cells and hydrogen-powered cars. The City of Las Vegas is already running some hydrogen cars as a part of their fleet, part of a long-term test for Honda. As for me, I'm looking for one of those 49.5cc gas scooters as I'm tired of depending on the undependable and meager bus service here. Better than 100mpg, 30mph top speed, street legal, no registration or insurance required. A gallon of regular is running anywhere from $2.37 (Arco) to $2.59 (Sam's Club non-member) here this week.  |  IP: Logged David Stambaugh Film God Posts: 4021 From: Eugene, Oregon Registered: Jan 2002 posted 08-03-2005 04:12 PM                        I suspect the vast majority of Prius owners here in the Eugene area are mainly interested in making a statement. The Prius screams "Look at me! I care about the environment!" There's also the novelty factor. Long-term cost of ownership [read: economy and reliability] is probably way down the list of owner concerns. Toyota did have a recall of some sort on the Prius recently, but I haven't heard anything at all about them being generally unreliable. Time will tell though. I pay less for 100LL. I divided with a currency value I should have multiplied with. Hamilton is still usually more expensive than Toronto though, despite being closer to the Petro Canada refinery than Toronto is. It was about USD$3.20/US gal for regular USD$3.57/US gal for premium (CDN$1.03/litre and CDN$1.15/litre) the other day. I've been buying fuel at around 1am lately as it's often 10 cents less a litre at night for some crazy reason. I noticed the Sunoco on Main St W in Westdale was at 96 cents/l this morning, so I guess it's similar to Toronto right now.  |  IP: Logged Aaron Mehocic Jedi Master Film Handler Posts: 804 From: New Castle, PA, USA Registered: Jun 99 posted 08-05-2005 01:24 PM                     This December I may be in the market for a small SUV, say perhaps a Pontiac Aztek, Hundai Santa Fe, or Buick Rendezvous - don't know yet. I figure we can keep the miles low as it won't be going too many places beyond five or six miles from home. Here, gas prices for regular unleaded range between $2.21 - $2.25 depending on which station one uses. The Get-Go station in the more fortunate suburbs of our fair city is charging $2.25, while its twin in the working class neighborhood is asking only $2.23 for the same fuel. Corporate compassion I guess. Nevada might not have sales tax but they sure do have GAS tax! In Lovell, WY a couple of weeks ago it was 1.89.9 a gallon, under 2.00! Hi-Octane there was less expensive than regular was here in SLC. Wyoming is by far the cheapest for gas and has very little gas tax at all because the state is filthy rich from all the mining and oil. Then back to Idaho it climbs up 12 cents to 2.25/gal in Boise. Gas is always 5 to 10 cents cheaper in SLC than it is in Boise. Course, SLC has all of those refineries on the north end of town. I bought $30 worth of gas for my truck a couple days ago (pre pay).
