This morning I looked at a sign: $2.69 Regular $2.79 Creamier $2.89 Digital or Turbo, I'm not sure $3.05 Diesel And thought, "Oh good, it hasn't gotten over $3 yet." And what's up with Diesel? How did it go from the cheapest fuel to the most expensive? Can you run Jet "A" in your Diesel? It cost less, but maybe that's only to the airlines with contracts and volume discounts. Do I wish, I had bought the Prius 50 mpg instead of the Malibu 30 mpg ? No, but I do with I had bought the Element 25 mpg. Or how about a Vespa GT 60 mpg? What I really wish is that I lived where I didn't need a car and could rent whatever I needed or wanted. In hind sight that was all bullshit since his reasoning was to screw Big Oil since the environmentalist plank in the Democrat platform couldn't stand those guys. But who really cared, gas was cheap and the price was stable. Now Big Oil is striking back, trying to make up for lost revenue. Society is turning into a "supply and demand" society, and automakers are loving every minute of it when a sucker signs a stupid lease contract for a new FORD Super Heavy Duty, CHEV Avalanche, or a DODGE 2500 Power Wagon - let along the SUV market from practically all of these automakers. Signing a lease contract so you can get the biggest toy that you can get is like flushing the toilet once a month and get a big chunk taken off the ass when the contract expires, especially when you don't sign up for another lease to continue the destructive cycle. This is due to the massive reduction of value of the vehicle after the contract is over with and then you get stuck up the ass with the difference of the book value, unless you resign a new lease contract. (Course, automakers are seeing the dark clouds due to the reduction of SUV sales due to the fuel prices...people are getting tired of shelling out hundreds of (credit)dollars in fuel and insurance just by driving to the store and back-let alone galavanting on the freeway) Gadgets of all shapes, colors, types and kinds are actually destroying this society -these are actually making "slaves" out of our selves to where the gadgets control us instead of us controlling the gadgets. Used to be a good 5-10 cent difference between the indies and, say, Exxon, or Aamoco/BP. Not any more. Around here, diesel fuel cost more than premium. WTF? Diesel fuel is crap compared to gasoline! Regular went for a just-as-insane (by California standards) $3.89/gallon at this station, the last gas station for 65 miles called "The Last Gas". Four bucks a gallon? For 1200 miles of driving round trip, and factoring in more price increases for fuel, I figure I'll spend over $200 on gas alone. Yes, it is about time to buy a bicycle. A $200 or $300 bike of reasonably decent quality may pay for itself in a fairly short amount of time.
