Anyone who thinks they love babies needs to be forced to spend a coupla hours at Chuck E Cheese -- that will cure it.
As for "cute," first off, as Mr. Grant used to say to Mary Richards, I hate cute. I don't know what switch infants seem to be able to turn on in people....actually mostly women, who, when they see an infant, they invariably do this "Oh, isn't he/she "so cute" or "so beautiful"or "so adorable" nonsense, when anyone who is even marginally rational can see the thing looks like some ugly alien from another planet.
Women especially do this, mostly I think because in fact, they don't really think they are cute or beautiful or adorable either, they just feel the social pressure to say those things otherwise they will be seen as some kind of soul-less monster for not cooing and clawing at any newborn placed in front of them. Come on people, some babies are downright ugly as sin. But you can't say that, and I guess women dare not even think it.
One of our staff just gave birth and whenever she brings her little alien in, it's like all work stops because of the obligation everyone seems to feel to have to act enthralled with it. Not me; mostly because I fear that somehow someone is going to be able to read my face and body language and know what I am REALLY think about this wrinkled pink wiggly thing and I'll be stoned right then and there.

Depends on the parents and the child. My daughter was a model child. I only had to spank her once or twice, when she was 2. I told her not to do something and she was obviously testing the waters to defy me. After that, she knew that daddy meant what he said and we never had a moment's trouble from her. Sure, children cry when they are disappointed or get their feelings hurt, but that's part of how they communicate.
You have to understand they cannot help themselves. When you actually have a child of your own, your perspective changes - all by itself. ![[Smile]](smile.gif) Today, the sound of a crying child makes me sad, because it indicates he or she is unhappy about something or its needs aren't being taken care of.
Crying because the child is spoiled, however, only makes me furious at the lazy-ass parents. I have no ill feelings towards the child.
